Hello guys, one of the many ice machines at the casino I work at has been getting a starving txv fault every time it makes ice..but that's what is weird, it seems to not be having any problems at all making ice. I looked at the thermistors and the inlet temp is in normal ranges but the outlet temp is around 130 degrees at all times!! So is this something I need to call service on asap or is something possibly just wrong with the thermistor? In the manual it says the thermistor is shorted at 475 degrees and open at -22 degrees though so I'm assuming it is working properly. I will try to check it manually tomorrow, its in a difficult place. Also, on a couple of my ice machines I noticed during harvest the evaporator outlet temp is the same as the inlet. I figured the temp would drop by the time it got to the outlet. Sorry if these questions are stupid, I'm just a 22 year old maintenance tech with much to learn lol.

First of all, Does the ice machine actually say that it has a starving TXV fault? That would indicate a leak, never heard of anything monitoring that on a system but hey, maybe its new.
IF the TXV was starving, it wouldn't be able to feed the evaporator properly in which case you wouldn't really be making ice without problems. It could also be the sensing bulb from the TXV fell off or something and its actually overfeeding the coil but because the bulb is in the wrong place, it thinks its starving as its not getting any colder where the bulb is.
I am just guessing here, I am sure some of the more experienced techs will pipe in.

Thanks for the reply! I will have to check the sensing bulb tomorrow when I manually check the outlet temp. But yeah, I figured if I was getting a txv fault and the machine wasn't freezing properly then that would make sense but it is actually working just fine. I just didn't know if it is something that might start to crap out over time.
Don't mess with the txv bulb.
If it's making ice there is NO WAY you have 130° at the evap outlet.
It's a bad Thermistor
You can swap two Thermistors to verify the board and connections but it's a bad Thermistor.
