Daikin vs Goodman extended labor warranty

Hello,

I am choosing between new Daikin and Goodman heat pumps.
I'd like to ask professionals who had to deal with claims on one of the two (or both) extended labor warranties:
- Daikin 12 yr labor warranty
- Goodman 10 yr (Asure)
Daikin is $200 more, but with Goodman Asure I will have to pay for service calls (as I was told by installer).
Questions (I'd like to know opinions on each of two products):
1. Do you think this warranty worth the money?
2. How easy or problematic is making a claim and having AC fixed under warranty? Do customers have to wait long for approvals, other stuff, submit a lot of paperwork, etc.? Installers tell me it's very easy, but I am looking for an independent opinions.
3. Any other useful comments are appreciated.

Thank you.

One good thing about the Goodman/Daiken extended warranty is that it's offered by the manufacture unlike may other brands where they are outsourced to 3rd party Companies.

Basically same units different color as Daiken owns Goodman and with the Daiken two extra years on the compressor and parts manufacture warranty.

Then there is Amana

I would ask the Installing Contractor to show you in the extended warranty agreement that you pay for service call, from my understanding the Assure Care Contractor bills Goodman. Goodman gives a set rate for the service call due to region, so chances it's not going to be a high as billing the customer at their rate.

I can't see how you can go wrong with either brand or the Amana those are the best manufacture warranty around hands down. Depending on the equiptment you could easily get a new outdoor unit or new furnace if the compressor or HX ever fails ( or fails within 10 years on the Goodman ) with a Amana to the original owner

First... the quality of the installation is more important than the name on the unit...

Next... Daiken owns Goodman... so they are probably the SAME product, from the SAME factory, made on the SAME assembly line, by the SAME people, using the SAME parts... Just a different badge on the box.
All 6 of these brands: ArocAir, Comfortmaker, Day&Night, Hiel, Keepright, Tempstar... come from the SAME factory...
I have toured the factory... they are shipped without a name badge... that is applied when they are sold by a wholesale house to a contractor.

So if it were me... I would be looking for the better contractor.... rather than the better warranty.

Well, I wish I knew which contractor is better. I picked 2 out of 5, but I still cannot be sure who is the best. This is the first time I replace AC and they both have good ratings on various web sites. Don't tell me to ask around, most customers have to deal with AC contractors once in a while and cannot really evaluate the quality of installation. They are happy until AC fails.
So, my point is - the only criteria I can trust and get in writing is a manufacturer-provided labor warranty.
That's why I am asking. Did anybody have experience with labor warranty claims on Daikin or Goodman?

Well...

Advise was requested....
Advise was provided...
Yet advise was not appreciated nor followed...

Might consider this:
Would a contractor understand what happens more than a person who has never (or rarely) had to deal with heating and AC decisions?

If I took the time, I could list dozens of times folks made a choice strictly based on one or more of the following:
*Internet references
*Warranty claims
*BBB or other associations
Many many many times... the person got a bum deal.

Might consider when someone experienced gives advise...
To consider it... :)

Best of luck to you...
It sounds like you may need it... :)

One more thought...
Lots of folks put their retirement faith in pensions...
Look where they are now... lots of pension funds are broke... some are GONE!

Might be smart to think outside the box...
Warranties are only as good as the company...
What happens if the co decides to not honor them?
It happens my friend... :(

Your advise was - pick the better contractor.
I learned this first thing once my AC went dead and I started to read this forum. And I appreciate the advise.
But, as I said - I don't know which one of those two is better. And I don't know who knows. And I don't have time to explore further.
This is common situation for most customers.
If it wasn't like this, most of you guys would go out of business :) Only few best would stay :)

What can I say...

Guy asks for advise....
Guy does not like the advise so they do not follow it...

Best of luck to you...
You probably are gonna need it.

Was salemen a salesmen or the installer/tech? I dealt with an AC salesmen that would close on 90% of his sales calls. Yet he only new how to price equipment, company went broke after three years. Now he sucessfully sells roofing.

Second story. Have a friend, richard, whom still looks in a ten year old Yellow pages for repairmen. I asked why he used such an outdated book. He told me that he only wants to deal with companies that have been in business a while, so he knows they have been around for ,at least, ten years. See first paragraph.

Both guys were technicians.

Good idea :) Unfortunately I don't have old book.

Daikin/Goodman honor their labor warranties just fine. We've done hundreds of them over the years with no large problems. We set up the rate we are reimbursed at, and our business covers the "service call" with the labor warranty. Some business do this, however some bill for what they call "service call" and then the actual repair is covered by Daikin/Goodman warranty. As a customer, I'd make SURE the contractor registers your equipment AND purchases the extended labor warranties!!

The Goodman you listed is a 14 SEER, and the Daikin is a 16 SEER unit. Ask about Amana units because they have a lifetime complete unit replacement warranty on 16+SEER units!

Thank you for the info!

Can you comment on the manufacturing quality of Goodman/Daikin/Amana brands?
One of the bidders, who is also Goodman dealer, offered almost the same price for American Standard or Comfortmaker systems + 2 yr labor warranty because, as he said, he's not comfortable warranting an install (of Goodman equipment).

The Daikin will only get 15 SEER with the PSC motor air handler so 1 point above the Goodman. Wonder what size the joint needs? 2.5 ton? 2 ton?

The Goodman is bare bones. The Daikin has a compressor sound cover and Copeland's Core Sense diagnostics/lockout module so besides the 1 SEER point, nicer unit.

One more question. Unfortunately I have not been able to get the warranty documents from the contractors so far.
But Daikin guy is now saying that "unit must be checked annually in order for the warranty to stay in effect". I assume this means extra cost.
Few days ago he said I pay upfront, and there will be no extra cost. Surprise :)
Did somebody read it? Does it really include such condition?

To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing about annual maintenance "required" to validate warranty coverage. This must be a dealer requirement? Lack of maintenance (I.E. dirty filters, dirty outside unit etc) is NOT covered by any manufacture's warranty. You should be able to find the warranty on Goodmanmfg.com website or Daikin's!
