Does anyone have a recommended list of popular Copeland potential relays for truck stock?

I used to relay on the Mars 6-pak, but a lot of the new Copeland potential relays are physically smaller than the Mars relays, and they have no crossover in the cross reference guide.

Was on a call this afternoon with a bad relay and capacitor on a walk in cooler. 80 miles from shop. Also, Sunday with no suppliers open. Out of the 40 or so relays I had on board, I couldn't find one that would work.

I need to stock up on relays so I have them all covered in this rural area.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ooh...

For those situations i carry the mars 60 relays

BUT.....I also carry the 5 2 1 universal kit for this type of moment.
It kinda sucks yeah but the 521 will get it running.

Ive actually left a 521 kit in place and its been about a year now and no issues so far.

I have the Mars 60 relays, but none crossed over, and they were physically too large. What's the 521 kit? I ended up using a Supco URC0210 relay/capacitor/overload to get them running.

Model # RST45CIE-IAA-108

And, Copeland is making me crabby. Sticking the control boxes on the sid of the compressor... right over the plastic terminal box cover. 7,000 wires, a terminal strip, and a relay; all stuffed in a 2 sq. in. Box!

To top it off, the screw to mount the relay can't be accessed without removing the box from the side of the compressor.

OMG! I'm such an idiot! The relay is a 040-0172-03. It's a current relay. :Faint:

I was thrown off when I saw the bleed resistor on the cap, and the remote screw mount on the relay. To top it off, when I looked it up in the Emerson X-REF app, the exact compressor didn't come up. The one that did, used a potential relay.

I'm still interested in what everyone stocks on their trucks. Current and potential.

Copeland has two diff size current relays. The smaller one pushes onto S&R comp terminals. The other current relay(larger body) has the mounting screws that go thru the back of the comp control panel. And the control panel has to be removed from the comp to gain access to the screw heads, its been that way for a long, long time.

I used to stock all the Mars/Steveco/RBM/GE Relays from the 90-63 to the 90-71 and they covered all the bases...until Copeland and Tecumseh started revising all their start components. I am certain there was collusion there somewhere, but I can't prove it.

This guide provided all the info you needed to know:

Mine was so worn and tattered it became hard to read...right about the time it also became obsolete because there were any of the listed units left any more. ;)

If you have to buy a relay that you don't have in stock, but two of them.
