Sorry all, but I have never heard of these "pancake" units except when pouring maple syrup on the edible ones, can someone elucidate?

Ceiling mount for tight spaces.. Armstrong had a very popular one made in the '60s. It's the perfect unit for the right application.

Yep.. I've always heard them referred to as "pancake" units. I used to service an apartment complex with about 200 of the old Armstrong units.. They were great, and simple to work on.. And they lasted forever.. well, I guess I should say they were built to last

 

in slang we refer to them as furr down units. a pain in the backside to work on as there's simply no roOm.

 

We have them here in Florida. The Armstrong’s have been replaced by the First Company units.
