Hello,
Recently had a DM97MC furnace installed. I had an existing Emerson 1F95-1277.
The furnace was left configured on single stage t-stat which basically makes the furnace start at 35% for 2 minutes, ramps up to 57% for 8 minutes, 78% for 10 minutes then goes 100% till tstat satisfied. I’ve gone ahead and changed the dip switch for a 2 stage tstat which now has a profile of 35%, 2min, 50%, 8min then 60% until tstat is satisfied or 2nd stage is called by tstat which would ramp up to 100%. Being aware this is a modulating furnace and Daikin has the One+ stat which could increase the furnace in like increments of 2% to wherever it sees fit, is it worth the $ for it? Currently hovering around 10F and hasn’t kicked in 2nd stage besides me increasing the tstat 3-4 degrees just to see if it would kick the furnace in second stage.

Modulating equipment typically works best when paired with the controller from the same manufacturer.

What size equipment? What location? How many Sq Ft?

I suppose if you want more options, the Daikin One+ is the way to go as mentioned. Comes with a 10 year manufacturers thermostat warranty that needs to be registered that I’m aware of to get 10 years. Most stats are 5 years at best. Hopefully you registered the furnace also as that furnace comes with a 12 year parts warranty, limited lifetime HX warranty to original registered owner and if HX fails in the 1st 12 years you get a new furnace. I believe the HX is made of all Stainless Steel and not Aluminumized Steel , like some other brands in same tier line.

Should be able to apply for the Federal Tax Credit as it needs to be 97% minimum. Can tell you the efficiency rating to confirm 97% for the Tax Credits. Would need the complete model number.

That furnace should also apply for your state rebate$, which is money in your pocket, whereas the Tax Credit is as it says a Credit. Check your state’s requirements as it could easily be rated at less than 97%.

Did the Contractor mention those two programs to you?

It's the 60000btu model, smallest they make for modulating.

Located in Edmonton, Canada

House is a mid 70's 1940sq above grade, about 1200sq basement, half unfinished. Theres 2 furnaces, one is a single stage ameristar 60k btu covering half the basement and half the main floor. The Daikin is doing the other half of basement, mainfloor and second floor.

It's not uncommon to hit as low as -40.

I asked those questions to the company who did the install, they advised that they register the furnace, would that make sense?

Unfortunately, in Canada our government thinks HE furnaces don't qualify for rebates, but heat pumps would. The climate varies drastically in this country, and being in a northern prairie city where we can experience weeks of -20 to -35 weather, one can't rely solely on a heat pump. Such a blanket policy for the entire country makes no sense to me.

I personally would not trust them to register your equipment, as it can fall through the cracks easily. Certainly you can get the serial number of the furnace and go to this site and see if it’s been registered in your name. If it hasn’t, register the furnace yourself.

Again that’s an impressive manufacturer warranty, that you don’t want to lose. If not registered, thinking you get a basic 20 year HX warranty and 5 years parts..or thereabouts..

100% agree, the main reason I went with Daikin is the class leading warranty. I have 60 days from install to register, I will wait till permits have been closed out and verify if the company truly did what they were going to do or as you said, register it myself.

I'll see if the company may be willing to provide the One+ tstat, it seems to me if you install a modulating furnace, you need the stat to take full advantage.

I made a mistake in post #5 the thermostat comes with a 12 year manufacturers warranty once registered and not 10 years, if you go that route..

THE DAIKIN ONE+ SMART THERMOSTAT IS BACKED BY AN OUTSTANDING 12-YEAR1 LIMITED WARRANTY*

*Complete warranty details available from your local dealer/contractor or at www.daikincomfort.com. To receive the 12-Year Limited Warranty, online registration must be completed within 60 days of installation. Online registration is not required in California or Quebec.

12-Year Limited Warranty is available for owner-occupied residences only. For multi-family and/or commercial applications, the warranty period is 5 years.

Quick update, so on the day of my last post I did receive an email from manufacture showing the furnace was registered to my name, address, model and serial number matched. The company came back to go over my concerns about lack of thermostat being installed for modulating furnace. They’ve advised they will come back to install the Daikin thermostat as well they stated they will install a fresh air supply into the plenum. I have two furnaces and only one ever had a fresh air piped into the cold air return. I never had the cold air dumping in a bucket setup even when I had the 70’s giant green airco beast furnaces. Thoughts?
