Any thoughts on going with a Dakin brand A/C that uses R32 refrigerant vs waiting until 2025 to use the new R454b refrigerant?

I don’t see the difference. Manufacturers are beginning to supply the new equipment to distributors already.

Personally, I’d forget all about the new stuff and get something that’s still R410a while it’s still available. The refrigerant will still be available for a long time.

Daikin has opted for R-32 as their selection for A2L refrigerant, 2025 will not change Daikin's selection.
R-454b equipment is available on the market currently.
Mfg's are introducing equipment with A2L.

R-454b is a drop-in replacement for R-410. Which R-32 is less likely to be without substantial clever work. R-454 also has a lower GWP number than does R-32. About 30% lower if I am remembering correctly. So, if predicting the continuation of climate related mania; I would think R-454 to have greater staying-power than R-32.

So don't see any rush to do anything except buy R-410 or R-454 equipment and march on. Either will use R-454 and R-32 equipment will not.

For the homeowner there's no difference between R32 and R454B. There's no difference in availability, efficiency, or price. If you really want the new stuff now then get the R32 unit.
