I can get a good deal on a bosch 18.5 seer bova or bovb bosch 24k central unit, but mitsu or fujitsu seem to be the go to unit by most contractors. soooo many choices. need 24k heat pump inverter compressor, decent seer #, don't need hyper heat, going into a existing 950 sq ft finished basement with existing simple duct system to replace current ruud UBHC-14J06SFA heatstrip-only unit.

first was going to get midea,, then mitsu,, then gree, then back to midea, then mr cool, then back to mitsu, aaaaauuurgh! dollars is an issue and so is ease of install since will diy. (rural area, hard to get hvac folks out there) zone 4b.

one guy was trying to get me to buy the bosch bova or bovb central. but does bosch really compare to the japanese stuff, (mitsu/daiken/fujitsu)?

what is the word on the street for gree vs midea vs bosch?

i DON'T want to have to deal with this again for like 10 years. the cheapest unit i have found is a midea 20 seer hyperheat. only drawback is i have to braze connections to air handler, (prefer flare) but not a deal breaker.

thanks for any input (again)

DIY heh, go Mr. Cool, they come with precharged lines, as that brand is for DIYers. Course having the correct size ductwork is very important also. Your carrying the manufacturers warranty also.

May want to break open the box and check refrigerant charge and to make sure you don’t get a scratch and dent system ( from transportation ) from wherever your purchasing equipment as it’s on you once you sign for it, if things don’t work as planned.

i should mention, i am an exceptionally talented, experienced, and smart diy with lots of quality hvac tools (having done a few installs over the years) including nitrogen tank, vac pump, nice guages, etc. the only thing i don't have is a recovery tank and scale. I also don't really want to braze but i have sweated up a number of homes back in the day. i am looking at mr cool but leaning towards a mitsu or bosch inverter unit

Hey your stereotyping, not everyone who is homeless is mentally ill, may just be careful to count your tools afterwards.

Sorry that last part may be stereotyping…

I think Mr. Cool and Gree Flexx are the exact same thing except the Mr Cool has precharged line sets and quick connect fittings and Gree is flare fittings. (Gree marketed to contractors and Mr Cool marketed for DIY).

Mitsubishi would likely be the highest quality but not sure what is available direct to consumer, it may just be a rebranded something else that Mitsubishi slaps a sticker on and sells over the internet?

Fujitsu is good as well but like the mitsu, I don’t know what you’ll actually get through an internet purchase.

I’ve never seen a midea in person but I believe that’s who makes the Bosch inverter if I remember correctly.

Mr. Cool would probably be the easiest to DIY, as far as quality I have no idea but I doubt it’s great quality.
