Did some looking at Black Box. They've got an RS-485 to fiber converter (no surprise there).

Not cheap. 500 bones at each VAV box ($). That particular converter requires 10-48VDC so you'll need a 120VAC or 24VAC to DC power supply - more cost. Fiber can be strange. Many years ago at the US Air Force Academy they use fiber for some of the DDC controllers. Couldn't communicate with one controller so I took it to the 'lab', hooked it up on the bench and it ran fine. Put it back in the field - ran fine (?). When they asked me what I did to get it to work I told them 'Took the controller for a walk' (good doggie).
