3/4T walkin vs. 2 tons of rotting kale

Church food bank accepted over 200 large boxes of kale, and put in the walkin cooler, >R40 insulation, 8 ft by 16 ft by 8 ft tall with 3/4 T refrig unit, packed pretty solid with kale.

Cooler functioning fine, keeps stuff line 2 tons of milk at 35F with 95F outdoor temps.

Member reported cooler temp 70F inside, so shut off the cooler as only thing in there was kale, but left door closed.

Next morning 95F inside cooler with nightime temp of 55F.

Heat of decomposition overwhelmed the cooler the first day to get to 70F inside, just kept climbing with AC off.

Went to checkout the AC as some suspected the AC failed - working fine, just overwhelmed.

Stuck a thermocouple between a couple of the boxes of kale, 140F!

Suggested church not accept any more 2 ton donations of wilty kale.

I wonder how many people who go to food donation centers actually eat kale.
Personally I absolutely love kale it makes me best soup ever! But I don't go to food donation centers.
Man I'm hungry I'm going to have to have my wife pick up some kale and russets so I can make my family's traditional kale soup, I have not made it in a long time.

I'm tired of these mediocre "semi flammable" refrigerants. If we're going to do it let's do it right.
Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

What the what? Rotting lettuce can get to 140° all on it's own? I never heard of such a thing. Really? Does this soup that R600 likes cook all by it's self? Gross. No thank you.

No I use only very fresh kale. Compost is an amazing thing!

Composting creates heat. 140* seems excessive but, a quick google search says 110*-140* is normal.

140° is low. There have been cases of farmers bailing hay before it is dried down properly. It can get hot enough to spontaneously combust, otherwise known as catching fire on it's own, out in a field, with bails stacked on each other. If it happens in a barn the barn is gone, can't save it.

I have 4 Restaurants with the Coolbot setups , and those LG window units last about 5-7 years

    10x10 boxes

    Its crazy

No maintenance other than one Pizza place as a ton of Pollen in the spring , I just hit it with a hose real quick
Tell your Cat I said "Psst Psst Psst"

It seems like everywhere I go the AC is broken

FWIW, the church walk-in Daikin minisplit (FT/RS) does NOT use a coolbot -

Why spend $200 for something that can be accomplished with a 50 cent 22 kohm resistor added across the Daikin RH1 thermistor? Or a few cents more, replace RH1 with different curve thermistor.

So, operating as cooler vs room AC, suction pressure is 100 psi vs. 150 psi, (the Daikin uses R410A)
I'll learn something if anyone has a good technical explanation of why the 150 to 100 psi suction pressure change would decrease total running time operating before failure (AKA MTBF)? The Daikin electronic expansion valve works well into that region.
