For Sale: Trane XV 1500 Thermostat with Controller Board

    Hello,

My 1994 Trane XV 1500 heat pump (such a great unit!) finally went out (compressor) and I'm selling the working thermostat with controller board if anyone is interested (pictures attached). The specs are:

    Model: AYVSTAT100A
    DWG: D941559G01
    REPL: THT1186

    Thanks!
    Kevin

How much will you pay me to take it? No one wants a used 28 year old thermostat.

I don't think you speak for everyone. If my thermostat had gone out on an otherwise good system then I would most certainly want it.

My point is, it’s 28 years old. How much longer will it last? New thermostats are reliable and cheap, with a warranty.

As far as I know, and what I've been told by several HVAC technicians, no other thermostat will work as the Trane XV1500 requires this specific thermostat. And Trane has obviously not been making these thermostats for many years so they are extremely hard to find.

Lol, why would an HVAC tech buy it if he didn't need it?

You are correct that it "was" a great system. It was also not produced very long because of being too ahead of it's time so it did not sell well.

We put in 5 of them all went over 18 years and are now gone. Most didn't last that long. The chance that there are any left is pretty slim.

At this point if there are any left they would be better off putting in a new more efficient system than spending even a few $ on a 28 year old control system because time is not on their side.

Yes, I'm sure there aren't many left running. Ours was running great; we had a company come out to clean the coils and then it died. I didn't know there was a risk that could happen but I guess I should have left it alone, lol.

I do know a budget system will not match the XV1500 system's efficiency or comfort so maybe someone out there needs this thermostat to try to get a couple more years out of it. That's the only reason we paid to get the coils cleaned.

I know of no way to clean the coils to cause a system failure. What are they saying the failure was?

The SV1500 was only classed as 15 SEER, the budget model you spoke of is 13 SEER, not a lot of difference there. In fact if properly installed and set up the 13 SEER may come close to matching efficiency of a 25-30 year old system.

Now if you go up to top of the line for today like the XV was then we are talking a completely different story.
