Thread: Hvac repair quote for failed compressor which grew into replacement of entire system

    Thank you again to everyone for your expert opinions. I now understand I need to have someone reassess the unit to identify the problem which my technician apparently did not perform properly.

    I wanted to add that I tried restarting the unit and, of course, nothing happened but i did notice the condenser cooling fan did not start and an error appeared on the Infinity controller saying "system malfunction, call for service." Should the condenser fan have started even though something in the unit (possibly the compressor) isn't working?

    Your asking troubleshooting not allowed to answer.
    Please get a different contractor to look at the unit.

    If the compressor is the problem, why is it a bad idea to replace it? Or are you saying that the Bristol compressor has a poor track record and you wouldn't replace it with that one?

    That compressor has the worst track record in the industry.
    Im surprised you arent already on your second compressor.
