Daikin vrv hand held tool/programmer.
I am looking for the hand held tool or maybe the computer program and cables to connect to the Daikin vrv units. Maybe a tech on here has the stuff but does not use anymore etc. I’m looking to purchase it. My email is anthonyac1@yahoo.com. You can email me here if you do not want to post on the forum

Going to the trainings and getting credentialed by Daikin to buy the tool is probably a better option. Will your company send you to trainings? VRF is kind of a different animal and it’s very helpful to have the training before messing with one.

Edit: good lord I cannot read today lol

I hear ya. I would love to go to the training. But I don’t have time to spend a week in Ohio. I work crazy hrs 7 days a week. 15-20 hrs a day. Some nights I sleep in my van at the job site. Straight grinding.
I see the controller retails for about 1,400. I’ll proudly pay it. But to buy it you must submit your training certificates.
On the other hand vrv is not that complicated once you understand the theory of the ac/refrigeration cycle and principals.
You have a variable speed compressor that ramps up and down based on the demand of the indoor heads. Since it’s variable now you need a variable speed condenser fan to match the heat rejection, also an EEV to vary the flow. Honestly once you understand one you understand them all. The only thing that changes is the controls programming obviously some units are designed different, yes more components are added. I’m just saying if you have an understanding they are not complicated. However you can’t see many parameters with out the tool.
Techs get all wet omg vrv. What’s that? Is it a space shuttle? Do you need special guages? No it’s an ac unit with more technology.
It’s like ice machines. They all make ice, the all need to stop the water temp below 32 degrees f on the ice grid to produce ice. Now they all terminate the freeze cycle their own way. Maybe a thickness probe, suction pressure, water level float etc.

The basic idea isn’t complicated (especially when oversimplified). The troubleshooting can absolutely get complicated (I don’t know of any VRF tech that would disagree). Anyway, are you self employed? I’m just wondering if you are that busy why you need to force vrf into your schedule. Or I would just tell my employer…send me to school and buy the tool or I’m not working on it. But I wouldn’t down play the training.
But back to your original question. I don’t personally own the tool so couldn’t sell it to you. Daikin keeps a close eye on who has what and finding one outside of Daikin could be difficult. However, this forum is definitely the best place to look so hopefully something will work out for ya.

Yes I agree the electronics can be more advanced. Also I don’t care for the account much. But it’s an old folks home. I take care of 6 different facilities. This is a newer facility they just took on/purchased. Daikin took care of the account before me. Atleast the techs that went out there were not the sharpest. Several issues I found. So now it’s mine. It’s actually pretty smooth easy account couple 30 ton fresh aire units couple 20 ton splits. Then about 6 vrv condensers. So far I have not needed the Daikin tech view controller. But I know one day I will. Or tech support will say I need it to trouble shoot further.
So I’m trying to be ready for that day.

I have 1 tech. So it’s 2 of us. People say “oh man hire more guys” yea it’s not that easy. The same thing with this account. The daikin guy did a leak repair on vrv unit. He burnt a communication cable. I guess he never seen it. Unit gave communication fault. He hooked up his controller tool. Said communication failure. He came up with a bad board. Ordered board and replaced. Unit still same error. I stopped in after they left. I found burnt cable. I spliced the cable then boom unit started. I look like the hero and Daikin looks bad. But in reality Daikin is huge and I am a nobody. I refuse to send a guy out to one of my accounts and the dick around on tik Tok n stuff. Talk to their buddy or girlfriend all day. I don’t mind but do your job right
Same account different service company. Daikin did the a/c and some other company did the refrigeration equipment. Walk in freezer down. X company diagnosed a bad compressor. I went for 2nd opinion. I found bad run cap swollen. I was like this can’t be for real. And the run and common wires were swapped at contactor. I guess during his trouble shooting he put them crossed. I hosed out the condenser coil. Freezer working good. This was 4 days ago.
So when people say oh just hire a few techs. I just say yea yea. I don’t mind paying good. But guys want $30 to jack their own dick.
Sorry for venting but explaining where I’m coming from,

Damn that’s crazy stuff lol. Yeah it’s unfortunate that good help is so hard to come by. I hope young people start to realize the opportunities in the trades!

I reject your reality and substitute my own, lol..this was what I found just the other day on my 1st call..

Sorry for venting but explaining where I’m coming from,
Speaking of daikin communication error codes, I find them on the tstat display under maintenance information…I came across a bad connection at the main branch control board assy for cassette units…it was a PITA to locate where it was above the drop ceiling and above a light fixture I had to move out of the way just to get access to it..
I am going to find out about the Daikin training as I’m being sent out to troubleshoot more and more of these VAV units…but the majority of them has been the simple diagnostics to fix…especially after a power outage where they need to be power cycled off for 5 minutes then restarted , clogged condensation drains causing float switch codes till cleared and a random evap leak (replaced evaporators) found on the compact horizontal AHs and the cassette units typically fail on a bad motor or the cheap plastic fan blade cracks at the hub causing noise…
All replacement parts show up under Goodman (of course)

Yea man I hear ya. The crazy thing is a lot of times it’s such any easy visual diagnoses. You start to realize they were just not paying attention or just don’t care. It’s crazy. I never get upset for a tech not knowing something. I know I definitely don’t know it all. But atleast I poke around and fix the dead give away issues.

What you are looking for is the Daikin service checker if you want to use your laptop or the Bluetooth service checker (BTSC). Not something you will find online very easy or something someone will be willing to part with. I have both and prefer the laptop service checker over the Bluetooth, but to each their own.
Also there is alot of info you can get if you learn how to use the outdoor units display or the BRC controllers. Indoor unit pipe temps and all can be easily attainable without the service checker.
Talk to you local rep and see about getting an account set up for Daikin, I think they are still offering the install, commissioning, and service/troubleshooting courses online.
