    York Equipment

    Hey guys,
It has been some time since I have posted. I am hopeful you guys can provide real world experience with York equipment vs others.
Over the past couple of years we have noticed that York equipment (packaged/split units 25 tons and less) cost more from an installation standpoint and from a service standpoint (reliability is the big issue).
Out of the shoot you have to assemble the economize (compared to other brands), program the SSE controller, provide a startup form, program VFD, warranty registration. God forbid you actually have a problem and try to talk to tech support without a startup form.
We have received too many service calls that tend to stem around the SSE controller. Either it has failed or needs a firmware update.
Condenser fans motors seems to be the first to fail, bearings ultimately being the issues (too much play).
Condenser fan blades cracking. Not uncommon to see after 2 yrs of service.

Has anyone received a call from York, after submitting startup form, stating that something is out of spec?

We have shifted to Trane, Daikin (not Goodman) and have had far fewer issues. Tech support does not ask for a startup report, the local reps will provide the 1st yr parts and labor warranty.

York chillers have never been any worse than other brands so I have no complaints with that product line.

Am I missing something or is everything listed above par for the course?

    Ecomizer assembly is common.

Startup form is required by most mfgs should be second nature on any startup by any qualified tech. Technically the warranty is void without proper registration / startup by most all mfgs.
I found that only about 10% of equipment is registered and well under half are completed correctly.

Very few rooftop units are factory run tested so all settings should be verified.

Tech support is highly variable and warranty issues come & go with each, some more than others.

Startup paperwork and warranty registration have not been required by trane or daikin. We have our own internal forms for startup but York won’t accept those. It’s an electronic version via paper. Maybe there is a tillable form for mobile devices we are not aware of?

Daikin Applied requires startup & registration within 10 days.

Residential & non”applied” products do not require startup forms.

Every IOM I've seen for rtu's has a startup form of some kind.

Ask yourself this....if they dont require any kind of actual startup verification, are they just pushing equipment, to get as much out there as possible, to sell parts in the future?

Also, a lot of commercial equipment gets an extended warranty if the startup paperwork is sent in, and product registered.

The Smart equipment platform had been problematic.

As far as quality, every manufacturer is in a race to the bottom. Cheaper parts, thinner metal, etc.

I think Carrier was using plastic CF blades.

I'm no fan of York rtus. Micro channel condenser sitting right beside the gas exhaust.
    Constant boards getting wet.
Electric panels that fill up with snow and take out main panel fuses.
We have a ton of them here. And I hate every single one.
