Converting a gasoline engine to hydrogen

Maybe this (Hydrogen transportation) will be a thing

So, stop, am I missing something? what do you want to do with it and what did you do it for?

Cummins just launched a hydrogen powered commerical bus engine. Maybe that has some use. Funny how they had to design several drains to handle all the water going through the motor because when you ignite hydrogen it turns back into water. They had to account for that issue just like furnace manufactures had to drain a condensing furnace.
Since hydrogen is generally fracked electrically by running a DC circuit through water which separates the hydrogen from the oxogen atom it would probably be a lot more efficient just to keep the electricity and use that to power an electric motor instead of an internal combusion engine.

Thats my understanding (better to use the electricity to charge batteries) but Im thinking that hydrogen may have its place in large scale applications &/or where energy density is an issue (aircraft).
Would have to have an abundance of low cost electricity to produce the hydrogen as the efficiency of hydrogen non fuel cell propulsion is substantially lower then batteries or fuel cell.

Yep, looks like hydrogen ICE (internal combustion engine) WILL be a thing

I manage 251 forklifts for a Amazon location. They all have hydrogen Gen Drive fuel cells. (24 and 36 volt) The technology of it is pretty cool. They pull up to a fuel station and a couple mins later back out driving. No need for 100's of chargers.

The problem is how to supply the hydrogen.
It takes more power to frack the hydrogen from water or natural gas than the energy produced.
There are no vast fields of hydrogen like petrol. It has to be released from something else like natural gas or water.
Hydrogen is the lightest element. Due to mole numbers there is more energy in a gallon of gasoline than in a gallon of hydrogen.
I'm thinking hydrogen is just a place to dump a lot of $$$. As it is, cars are killing us in many ways.

The intent of the post was not to kill the gasoline engine but, to put it out there that there are other options besides electric.

Yes there are other options to BEV (Battery Electric Vehicles) with hydrogen being the primary one.
The point is that extracting hydrogen consumes a lot of energy & thus batterys are a more effective way of getting the job done for the majority of small scale transport.
No doubt hydrogen will make its way into certain aspects of motorized transport tho.

Not killing anything but where is the hydrogen going to come from?
What I've seen is ideas that are looking for money rather than ideas making money.
Petrol was great as energy went. Cheap, portable, available with gas stations in every town.
Governments often buy into what's wishful thinking. Carter was the only recent President that was also an engineer. Most just listen
to advisors with questionable intents.
I recently saw an atomic cannon designed to fire a nuke shell. No one thought of problems like, "What if the wind changed direction?"
I wonder what that cost?
A bigger problem than energy to power cars are the cars themselves. Cars created a big problem.
We have done great engineering on engines. Especially in racing. What's discovered in racing makes into production in many ways.
In F1, to get the power from what is a tiny engine is amazing. Electric doesn't sound the same.
I will miss gas engines.
Electric golf carts = OK. Electric F1 cars, not so much.

I stuck a dozen playing cards into the spokes of my electric motorcycle......
That sound is AMAZING!!!
Or how about this?
