I check every wire inside the condensor in a situation like that, even as sop when doing a call. have seen where passed through wall or floor where wires were cut against duct or lineset. sometimes wire use between in and out are switched so dead end strands wrapped around tstat wire may be energized and rub on one of panels and short

I can send you one with 1/4" spade terminals on it so that you can just plug it in permanently.

I'm tired of these mediocre "semi flammable" refrigerants. If we're going to do it let's do it right.
Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

the simple fix is to bypass the fuse and look for what burns (or use a thermal camera).
Nest is POO!!

Throw a time delay resettable fuse on the source, install multiple 3 amps fuses at each load. The one that blows is your problem

Well the transformer is toast long enough at 3 amps.. in all likelihood and hopefully the short is quick. I use a 5 amp time delay. It takes 3-5 sec to trip which is certainly long enough for a fast blow to trip first

2 summers ago I fought one for a week that would sometimes run for 5mins then pop fuse or it may run for a day and a half. It was so random and could not find the short. I just gave up after the 3rd time I was there and ran a temp stat wire outside to the pump from the air handler inside, down the hallway out the garage door and hooked it up and told the lady to call me when it quits working. She called a week later and said there has been no more problems. Re ran stat wire and all good since.
I checked the wire multiple time visually and with my meter, I prolly coulda found it quicker if I had a megger back then.
Sometimes ya gotta throw something at the wall and see what sticks.

Seen many a discharge lines with wires laying on them and eventually they will melt and trip. System shuts down and all gets cooled down and no problem until those long run cycles kick back in nd things heat back up...I've seen it more than once

Look for chewed wiring or something laying on a pipe
