Yesterday. Replaced failed capacitor with a carrier source capacitor due to fan not starting (would start with a small push). With the new cap(45+5 +-5% 370/440 etc) on the fan started right up without a boost. Get a call later unit is still not working. I return today and replace the condenser fan motor with a factory sourced motor (208/230). The condenser fan, after running approximately 20 minutes, runs at 1/4-1/2 speed. Does any one here have any clue what else there could be. It's a dual cap. The fan is wired to the cap and one leg of the contactor. Am I looking at a partially grounded compressor? No fan controls on the board or on the system. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds likely that the fan motor is mechanically failing

I'm tired of these mediocre "semi flammable" refrigerants. If we're going to do it let's do it right.
Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

So this is a new unit or just a new motor?
Depending on what brand that motor is it would be even more suspect to me if it's brand new because I had a lot of bad out of the box motors a few years ago.

Brand new fan motor from Auer Steel part number HC39GE238 Totaline motor. If a winding is partially shorted would that explain the half speed? I also appreciate the discussion. Thank you.

That part number is pulling up as discontinued in 2016.
I had a lot of bad bearings in new century motors about 3 years ago before I quit using them. It was small bearing and sleep bearing motors but mostly ball bearing.

You need to verify voltage amp draw and the capacitance of the brand new capacitor because I found plenty of brand new capacitors that were well out of spec. I'm assuming an oem carrier capacitor is probably one of the lowest quality capacitors you can buy for the highest price of course.

I will get that info on Monday, Carrier actually told me to use a mitco which isn't too pricey but yeah. I will get the voltage and amp draw on monday. Compressor hums along nicely until it bumps the high limit switch :/

I'm a big fan of amrad capacitors.

Hes gonna end up babysitting this until the fan slows down , and he needs to be ready with the volt meter to check for 240 , or 208 , then amps
Does the motor go through a relay , or a motor controller for winter time ?
My guess is a mis-wire but since we're dealing with 'New Guest', all I can say besides "look at everything" is to register as a pro for more detailed advice.
