    HVAC Resources

Estimator in training, but the company I work for does not provide much training. I'm ok with doing this myself, what are some websites or resources online that will help someone who isn't brand new to HVAC? I have about 5yrs exp in sales and some general knowledge. I've done MEP Academy and Engineering Mindset, I would suggest both of those to anyone who us new. Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated. FYI I do commercial quoting so anything with a commercial focus preferred.

Market will bear? Not sure what you mean by that, if you could elaborate that would be great. As far as knowing the market, that is important and I agree. I am looking for more trade or product knowledge/resources

Oh I read this as you're an estimator. I guess that would leave out final proposed price to the customer correct ?

No it does include pricing to the customer. you're correct on that so no worries. I'm on a team and we review all bids as a group so there is a ton of input in regards to our local market and how much a project should cost. Not to mention what will keep us profitable.

I am more looking for technical data or really anything that a GOOD commercial estimator should know. Or any resources that may be helpful to someone in my shoes.

Well as you probably already know
"the devil is in the details"
Equipment capacity, footprint, voltage, location ( distance on site to get to equipment ) etc.,etc.
I guess I'm still not quite sure what you're looking for here.

Personally I'm a owner operator so I have to wear many hats.

If you really want to learn take 2 years off and ride with installers, good installers! It is one thing to know the regulations you need to follow and how to do some if not all the calculations but in order to bid putting something together you need to know how to put it together and still be able to work on it later. This is what makes some jobs more profitable than others. You will also learn of all the things that you will have no control over that you need to figure out how to get around.

This might sound overly simple but you need to understand what the customer is asking for, then understand if your company can meet their need. You say you work of an HVAC company now, you need to learn the capabilities and capacities of the equipment you sell. Ask your bosses if there is any factory training you can go to. Places like Johnstone and whole sale house put on free training all they time or it is offered for a very small cost it is more geared toward service check with them and see what they might have coming up. Lastly joins RSES (look them uo online and get a subsription to the NEWS it will help you understand what the coming trends are. Question who does your load estimating (manual J) for you. if you do it do you understand how the data you input into the calculation effects the final outcome. learn that and you will have happier customers.

    Hope this helps?

Once you start working with 75% referrals then life becomes much easier.

I haven't advertised in over 5 years and my phone never stops ringing. I rarely get shopped around.

If it's only about website resources, then it's easy, just google and you will get it.
