I don't think PHM has ever posted a pic... I always think that's him in his avatar. I also always wonder about Twilly. That bubba avatar he has makes me think he is a good ole boy farmer boy that started to do heating and air. Bubba will come out and put that package unit in one second and wrap all your duct work with gray duct tape. Then he will be drinking a cold ice tea that the customer's mom brought out to Bubba. The new package unit will be cooling the house with the performance of a swamp cooler. Then Bubba will go get some drinks with PHM and figure out how to lower the capacity of a oversized condenser. (i'm joking here) Roflllll

Something that I have always liked is playing John Phillip Sousa marches loud and first thing in the morning. It just starts me off on the right foot.

Now that, on the other hand.. to me that sounds as old as John Phillips Sousa on the Victrola. Man, y'all must all be one foot in the grave around here.

Could the owner of a HVAC company send him into a home or a business, looking the way he does, and get repeat or referral business? Probably wouldn't happen even if he was a star technician.
My guess is yes, because many of us now have grandchildren who have the same appearance. all of my children and grandchildren have worked with me and they know how to work. I have a 25 year old grand daughter who's pretty goth. She works at one of the mall stores, assistant manager her favorite thing to do is catch shoplifters and kick their butts she's petite and weighs about 120 pounds, because the cops won't arrest them for theft, just give them a trespass notice.

Good, then you can hire and train these fools. Most of which don't even have a drivers license, cant show up on time, bring their mommy to interviews, no eye contact, no social skills, triggered by everything, and go through withdrawal symptoms if they can't look at their phone every 5 minutes. The reason why the trades cant find decent workers is because there are no decent workers. We have two generations out there now that are idiots.
Sure there are exceptions here and there, but they are rare. My son's electrical union is expecting to loose 60% of their journeyman within the next 10 years to retirement, and really have nobody to fill those boots.
Good luck training the foundation less sloth, your'e going to need it. If you find a proper new employee, then be thankful and treat them well, as it is a rarity these days.

When my kids came home said the wanted a piercing or tat. I'd say just a minute and went and got my Paslode nail gun and said where do you want it. they knew I'd give them a piercing for free. my grown kids still talk about the sign that hung in our kitchen. It went something like: You had better move out now. Earn your own money, while you still know everything.
I'm not saying there is not a problem with our younger generation. But some of the blame rests with the parents who turned their children over to the school system to educate and train them to live and work in the world. I was always of the opinion , that I'm not here to be their best friend but to teach them what they need to negotiate their way through life. (right, wrong, and fair). I've started ,my I don't give a shit attitude, I retire in 67 days and not looking back. I'll keep a few customers. I've got to have some income to be able to afford putting gas in the motor home. and stock pile ammo.

The wife and I raised 2 great kids (21 and 24 now) that are nothing like I described above, both are doing excellent and have no debt. I agree that there is a parenting problem, but also an education problem. I dont blame the kids, but yet the problem is still there and we are in big trouble.

I 100% agree. We had 4kids and now 6 grandkids. Mine are 42, 41, 40 and 38. Not to be morbid I don't think I'll be alive long enough to see the real bad effects

We have been lucky to find to some younger guys that see to be motivated and willing to learn. We are located around a decent metropolis area but the guys that seem to be willing to work and learn are from the more rural areas around us. There is slim pickings out there though. Still trying to find a good HVAC technical program. All of the schools that were around when I was new to the field have closed down so we are trying to work with local community colleges.
