    Water Meter Size

If the CW service pipe is 2" does that mean that I will need a 2" meter as well?

Or is meter size determined differently?

    Thanks

Meter size is determined by the flow and pressure required for the application.

The water's not gonna clear up in Washington DC until we get the pigs out of the creek.

It is what it is on the outlet that counts.

Where is the water going to go? What is the application? And how much water is needed downstream of the meter?

The way the city is here, the reason why it’s 2” is for volume and pressure. The will have 150-200psi to feed the streets and then has a prv ( pressure reducing valve) after the meter. You don’t need 2” coming to your house and most have fittings with them that reduce to 3/4 -1”.

You do if you have a long water line, and/or need that kind of volume.
