Quite well I'm sure.

I'm tired of these mediocre "semi flammable" refrigerants. If we're going to do it let's do it right.
Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

Most important tool...
First, I would agree with the OP... my brain...
As we know... most of the time... service work is electrical trouble-shooting... and that is something that just seems to come naturally to me.
If I had to pick a physical tool...
It would be either my phone or a pencil/pad of paper (for notes)...
I carry 4x clip wires on the Veto MCT bag... tied around the handle with a loop...
I use them a LOT to diagnose issues at the furnace.
When I am outside at the AC (or HP)... tend to use the meter more.
The Veto MCT is a nice service bag...
I have a Veto backpack for installs... albeit usually the helper is using it... and I am using the MCT.
Trivia fact: there is a version of the MCT bag that is designed as a 'range bag'... grin
Love it. I use it as my system check bag...FP probes and all else I need.

I keep one in a kitchen drawer, but not on the work truck.
I do a triple evac with nitro to remove non condensables.

The OP answered his own question in his first post.
Without any doubt, the grey matter between your ears is the single most important tool.
I do a triple evac with nitro to remove non condensables.

Just a thought...
There was a LOT more paper documentation back when...
AND...
The supply houses had more tech support available at a moments notice...
And of course, equipment was a lot simpler back when.

I would have to say that a good multimeter is the best tool to have on you. Almost everything else can be done with some sort of hackery (butter knife, wire, oddball socket with some tape, and so on), but a good multi meter can do things that will save you a LOT of time on just about any other diagnostic.

That’s a great line!, I know they make them like 25 to one nowadays lol, but the 6 in one is good enough for me…

I ordered 2 pack of the head lamps..22$. usb rechargeable. Can't do an install or complete repair without it. But for a quick glance around in the attic or dark hallway, whip out the phone light.

Just bought the new m12 light. Magnetic and has a swivel head on it. It should come in real handy!

They need to make an M12 headlamp.
I have no use for a flashlight unless I'm trying to shoot something in the dark.
