The real question is was the Copeland scroll held in place and operated by LG technology?

Let me guess they were all manufactured during covid?
Okay my real guess would be they all have LG compressors.

Seeing as how I don't usually consider mfgs having much of anything in common, the pump seemed like a good guess.

None of them are using LG on all their units, only some. I was told one of the big reasons for bringing LG in is that manufacturers were sick of being completely tied to one supplier for all their compressors - they wanted multiple options in case one of them has supply issues or something. With Trane as far as I can tell lately, 2 ton and 5 ton units have been coming with LG, all other sizes with Alliance.

2 ton happens to be my most commonly installed size by far (relatively mild summers here) so now I'm getting nervous seeing this post. BaldLoonie what are your LG failure rates looking like? A complete disaster or just a few of many? I've put in many XR13s with LG, no failures yet, but again, mild summers.

We had several units fail almost immediately last summer. One before we left the install, one right after. This is the first time warrantying other brands compressors that turned out to be LG.

LG goes beyond 2 & 5 ton that they started with on Tranes. Funny, they put the Trane name on the LGs which threw me off first time I saw it. In the 13 SEER, I've seen them in 2.5 (next door) and 3 ton. Ironically in the 13 SEER, 2 ton is Alliance but the 16 SEER is LG.

Makes me sick! I still pull out coils over 20-25 yrs old that are perfect. I'm replacing coils that are not even two, three years old. ADP for the most part.

YUP, mandated higher efficiency but relaxed standards on how to get there. They did it prior to coils with gas milage in cars. You save 50 bucks a year in gas but we took off the steel bumper and put plastic everywhere, now everyone's auto insurance went up an average of a couple hundred. Health insurance also went up to cover the all the shoulder injury claims from the gov't decision makers pattin' themselves on the back.

Fixed, step, or variable speed compressors?

No full compliance like Copeland, lg has internal reed pressure control valves, probable weak point.

All I see in common is the warranty paperwork, and a damaged P and L sheet.

What do they have in common?
    Lets see.....
    All use someone else's compressors.
All use someone else's components like contactors, caps etc.
    All outsource control boards

What do these guys actually make? Not much. They have that in common.
