It gets kinda scary when you measure 360-375 back emf on a cap with 370v rating.

I always thought those were for 120V blower motors...

I have 370 and 440 for blower motors... the 440's are for the few HP/AH installs I service.

Well, you left out a major component of why we are where we are today. Government regulations.

Government mandated higher efficiencies.

Thinner walled tubing helps towards that end. So does the rifling inside the tubing.

Yup...

And adding more loops of tubing... would accomplish the SAME thing!

Oh, and replacing the steel end plate with Aluminum... would have significantly lowered the leaks where the copper tubes go through the end plate.

Problem is... both of those solutions would cost more...
