3.5 ton air handler and 4ton condenser

Hello all, new to the forums. I am currently reconfiguring one of my AC's and got an estimate on a TRANE setup. I wanted to see if this makes sense:

He also quoted me the 4 ton XV18 but with the 4 ton air handler. Do the tons of the airhandler have to match the tons of the condenser? My AC person told me that these two match according to the company specs. I know little about the technical specs of a central HVAC and would appreciate the help.

I currently have a 12 year old Goodman 4 ton HVAC.

Here’s the Bible to matching systems, especially for rebates and Federal Tax Credits. Add a partial number of each section to see the ratings.

    https://www.ahridirectory.org/Search...0&ProgramId=68

    To view and print certificate.

The 4TTR6 combo AHRI number is 10093676 shows 16 SEER and 13 EER 46000BTU/Hr. On paper not real world numbers but need for rebates

The 4TTR7 combo AHRI number is 202274119 shows 17 SEER and 13 EER 46500BTU/Hr. On paper not real numbers but need for rebates.

    If homework was done correctly.

Very helpful. Interesting that the 3.5 ton air handler provides a bigger cooling capacity than the 4 ton air handler if I am interpreting this correctly.

Well….those are ratings are on paper, thinking computer generated or if any of them where done in a real world match up it’s in a environment chamber, under ideal conditions, after all they want to sell their products as being optimal energy efficiency.

Myself,… I’d get a matching indoor coil tonnage to outdoor unit tonnage, but hey that’s me…..

Need to register your system ( if you do not reside in California or Quebec ) or your manufacturers warranty decreases if never registered.

Any of those system should qualify for rebates and the Federal Tax Credits.

    One source for rebates https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...iQc0GVu13UMfK_

Free ( Donations Accepted to support the site ) load calculation to see what size you really need, if you have not done one already. Put together by someone here.

Now finding a Contractor to do a high quality, install following the install guides of the indoor unit and outdoor unit and setup and having properly sized ducts sure helps..
