Getting confused on Ranco ETC Differential setting for walk in cooler

If you want to keep a walk in cooler at 35 f what would you set the Differential setting to? I know in cooling mode the Differential setting is above set point. Would you have the Differential setting at 2? or would you have the set point below 35?

Are you measuring air or coil temperature?

Make it a coil temperature then you have a chance.

I Like A12-701 but others swear by A12-700

I would but the old one burned out and that’s what the owners of the Mcdonald’s want on their cooler. I couldn’t see the old settings so I was thinking of letting it down to 34 with a 3° differential

5 is the max. I was thinking with a cooler it’s not going to take that long to freeze because it’s been running since Friday at 4 o’clock and still barely any frost on the coil

The more differential the longer the off cycle = longer air defrost time.

I've also set them at 30°f and a 10°f differential to average out at 35°f

I'm guessing what they really want is the product at 35*F. So that is where you put the stat, cut in at 38*F. The idea is that the product will hold temp a lot longer than the air temp, so typically the refrigeration will kick back on before the product rises one degree. Of course, you will likely need a time clock to turn off the refrigeration to assure no ice ups.

I do a triple evac with nitro to remove non condensables.

Exactly! But they don’t know and it’s the most ridiculous demands they have. I’m setting it at 35 with 6 diff and calling it a day

Set the box temp for 34 with a 6 degree differential or the unit will freeze up.
