My funky pool plumbing second edition.
A new to us and much larger filter going in.
The nozzle was such high velocity that it was dangerous so I am installing two nozzles to reduce the velocity a bit. I got them in but it was after dark so I will have to get pictures tomorrow.
It turns out inch and a half male adapters are extremely hard to find right now.

This was me returning two bags of PVC fittings because I bought all 2 inch and needed all 1.5 inch.
I returned them for store credit and went back and bought all inch and a half fittings and completely forgot T's and male adapters. I ended up making a third trip to home cheepo.

Last time I put a lot of unions but I didn't put them where they would assist with alignment of the pipes. This time I am trying to think that through better.

A very good friend on the left is a pool builder. Typically they do freeform fiberglass walls but this one is traditional.
I think this pool is in the 70k range. I've helped him on many different jobs and lots of heater service calls. It's a fascinating trade but way to labor intense for me. Another friend I work with often dug the hole and took this picture from the excavator.

That is really cool.
Our pool was built by a local guy at least 30 years ago and was made in sections which were bolted together. Eventually they got fiberglassed together due to leaks so it is one piece now.

Here is my progress. It is plumbed from the strainer up through the pump to the filter. Now I just have to get it back from the filter to the bypass fountain and then into the chlorinator and to the two jets.
I went with an inline chlorinator because I got tired of floaters breaking and just throwing blocks of chlorine in the pool didn't seem to help much.

The old filter was 1.4 ft² of effective filtration area and the new one is 2.2 ft² of effective filtration area. I am hoping that will help bring the pump discharge pressure a little lower because with the old filter it was 25 PSI. That pump is a monster.

I rigged it up with a inline chlorinator and today I finally got everything to stop leaking. The clorinator included an o-ring on the control knob that was too small so I had to use a automotive AC o-ring that was a little fatter to get it to seal. The pipe going vertical just before the black chlorinator is a fountain that sprays out over the water for the kids. Initially I thought I might use it for cooling the water when it was starting to get too hot I would run it at night to evaporatively cool the water but I find that I don't need it. The pipe that runs over the side of the pool beside the skimmer basket is just a second suction because the pump is so large. The new filter gives a filter head pressure of 18 to 20 psi clean.

Ironically the mechanical one locally is double the cost of the Wi-Fi one online. I was going to buy the mechanical one locally if it was cheaper because I like spending locally but the price and the fact that I would prefer Wi-Fi control. It is hard to justify the mechanical one.
I need to check what my local pool store has because I really don't like spending my money online.

Had to learn about pools from scratch.
Here are a couple of things:

They are the guru site...
LOTS of tech articles and a forum...
This is where I learned.
Next: Get a salt chlorine generator... it is like night and day... no more burning skin and burning eyes, the chlorine smell almost goes away.
Next: Get a high end pool chemical testing kit, and do the full tests... it is fun to play with... and when you do the testing as recommended... and keep a log... after a year or so, you learn a HUGE amount about pool water chemistry!
Next... Leslie's pool supply stores have a 'pool school' class... it is one day, costs a couple $hundred. You get a pool service certification... You could add that to the services you offer... I did the class, easy if you pay attention in class.
I have about a dozen customers (hand picked, I do not advertise this service)... where I go 'open up' their pools, before AC season starts...
Easy $$$...
Now that I have posted, will keep an eye on your thread... see if I can help with stuff...
