Angry PTACs overheating in Las Vegas hotel

I work maintenance in a large hotel casino resort. We have over 2000 PTACs in our hotel. We have had several manufacturers from Sanyo to Friedrich and they all have the same problem. During the hottest days of the Summer, our PTACs give the E9 error code. We replace them with brand new units, but those will eventually give the same error code in a matter of an hour or so of it running. Set points are reasonable at around 75 on average. We have dealt with this issue for a very long time with seemingly no solution. We only have to deal with this for a couple of weeks throughout the entire year when the outside temp reaches close to 120 degrees.

The can inside "fins" line up with the condenser, too.

Is there even a solution to this problem?

    Reduce the outdoor temperature.

Manufacturers make equipment for normal conditions. Current conditions are not normal..

What do the condensers look like? Probably not bad being up off ground level but still could have some fine dust between the fins you can't see. You don't have water being slung on the condenser all the time like in the more humid part of the country.

These units are brand spankin new. The coils can't get any cleaner. The older Sanyos have R-22. The new ones have 410a.

I would figure a casino with upwards of 2000 shakers could have enough clout to go to any shaker manufacturer and demand a tweak of some sort, what does the OEM of these units have to say when you reached out to them?

Mother Nature, she sure can be a b!tch, this will be a summer to remember for many of us...been non-stop here with these unprecedented temperatures.

Look up the specs. I’ll bet there buying 100* max ambient. 120* max will cost a few more dollars.

You may have to talk to the manufactures directly.

We normally don't do the ordering. It's Procurement that does it and cost is normally the deciding factor on what they get and when they order, it's usually a dozen or so pallets of these units.

I didn't know there are different models for ambient temperature. I thought it was only in BTUs and tonnage that was the difference between them.
