Some evaporators I've crossed paths with typically non Sporlan distributors had no nozzle. I believe they are OEM manufactured with a different design.

TBH, I usually only think of the nozzles if I see weird distribution tube patterns of frost/condensation.

I didn’t think that with him installing a SBQE that he would have probably had to install an orifice.

Almost every Heatcraft evap I have installed came with the nozzles in a bag. The correct one needed to be installed in the distributor before installing the txv.

Not even almost every one I've seen.
Some with a bag never opened 😂

I'm tired of these mediocre "semi flammable" refrigerants. If we're going to do it let's do it right.
Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

If they put the wrong nozzle in, it would have been too big. They only have 2 for the 0250. The 1 1/2 and 2.

Ok , so the "Venturi " Type Distributor has its orifice built in ... and is specific to a certain Refrigerant , and can only use that Refrigerant

Where as a "Nozzle" Type Distributor can use any Refrigerant you want , by simply swapping out the Nozzle

I could only see a coil working "without the nozzle" if maybe the distributor was facing up ... and they just got lucky

Yeah a venturi wouldn't use a nozzle but the distributor type ( provided with a few different nozzles in a bag ) need them installed to mix the refrigerant.
But I've serviced coils where the bag was still hanging intact.

Do you remember if the dizzy was pointed straight up ?

If it was sideways .... I would think gravity would come into play bringing more liquid to the lower cap tubes
