You can bring your your suction straight down then use one long sweep street 90 into the evaporator no bending required.

Normally I just bend a 90 straight into the evaporator but I thought I needed a trap.

I'm tired of these mediocre "semi flammable" refrigerants. If we're going to do it let's do it right.
Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

Oh I see now what you were doing.
So in refrigeration we buy pre made traps for the bottom of a riser.

Exactly. I just only had soft copper and the store was closed.
My trap has much less volume than those premade ones.

If you have a split system 5 tons or less, can someone explain to me why traps are necessary?

No one ever cared about them before, and those systems lasted forever.
I do a triple evac with nitro to remove non condensables.

    They probably are not important.

I'm still scratching my head on this ....
It must be late and I need some sleep.
How is a vapor line in heat mode a riser ?
They must be talking about cooling mode.

The suction velocity is between 1200 and 1500 fpm which should be plenty to the blow the oil along according to the manuals.

    Where is air filter?
FYI-it will be to your advantage to ensure there is a few extra inches to any wire termination.

The air filters are in sealing return grills
I try to hide extra wire out of sight.

If you used compressors like the Tecum... sf, discharge cooled motors, even the slightest floodback or flooded start would kill em. Anytime the evap was high an inverted trap to the coil height was recommended.

    Looks great !
I have 4 installs under my belt but my last one still does not look as neat as yours.
And your 0.32inWC static is amazing. So far I've never seen anything near 0.5, mostly 0.6 to 0.8.
I think you made a typo on the Blower Amp of 0.3. I guess that would be a 1/2HP Motor which should draw around 3A.

Your braze joints look great, especially being so close to the cabinet.
I'm trying to improve mine as well, with the help with a Captain Hook.

But I think a lot of those old systems had undersized vapor lines which increased velocity.
Can someone please explain to me -
Why is there never enough time to do it right the first time, but plenty of time to do it twice?

The static was really just luck of the draw. That's for the amperage I wrote down what I thought I saw but who knows. The screen in watt mode on my supco redfish idvm550 has so many things displayed that they're all really small and hard to see.

This was a number two single tip on my Victor torch and about 5 years of practice. My first one looked like I'd spray textured the joint with braze and it never really improved until I figured out that I needed to run more fuel and less oxygen.

It says "when flow is reversed" as in cooling mode.
