Common wire on Bosch
The installation manual for the 2.0 heat pump shows a brown wire listed as C on the outdoor, indoor, and thermostat. Is this correct? I thought most common wires were blue or black.

There is no "standard" colors for low voltage wiring.
A manufacturer can use what ever they want.
Also, Techs in the field will routinely swap wires with one not being used because one is bad (chaffed, chewed by animals, broken ect.). For that reason, a tech never assumes a specific color is for a specific component.

Common by any other color is still common. I always use blue if it is available no matter what color the equipment uses.

I'm tired of these mediocre "semi flammable" refrigerants. If we're going to do it let's do it right.
Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

Did you wire it first, blow a fuse and then go back to the manual?

Just watched a video by Bosch, the instructor says the common is the blue wire.

So are you going to re-wire it so it has the color you want it to be?

The video was by Bosch, maybe you should read a little more carefully before commenting.

A common wire "usually" originates from the air-handler or furnace, not the thermostat or outdoor unit. Locating a common wire from a furnace or AH, “if you know what you’re doing” is VERY easy.

Maybe you should listen. The color doesn’t matter.

The blue wire is from the air handler, the outside unit has a yellow, blue, brown, and white coming from it. The Bosch installation manual (for this unit) that has a wiring diagram showing the outside unit, the air handler, and the thermostat and how they are supposed to connect to each other. The brown is listed as "C" on all 3. Bosch put out a video 2 days ago mentioning the blue wire as common. That's my confusion.

Are you a technician, or a homeowner DIY installation?

I use blue or black .... it depends on what the manufacturer is using blue and black for , and if they are using them at all
But I have seen all sorts of colors being used as C ... it depends on the installer and if he was being a "wise guy"

Just watched the video. At the end of the video the guy says, "gimme a yella wire, and a common" for straight cooling. He grabs the blue wire when he said common, but never says blue.
