    Vented.. into the attic

Water heater and furnace flue terminate in the attic, whoever did the roof deliberately went over the hole where it used to go up. Shoulda took a picture of it.

Is that where Anne frank was hiding? Looks like they had that set up for someone as a crash pad. Or rental. I have seen that.

Up until the late 1980s it was legal...ok... to vent water heaters into a basement if it was unfinished and airy... lol. Like vents.

I don’t remember if there was like a vent..fresh air opening size for the basement... but I remember those water heaters in those basements and the rot.... the rot caused by all that moisture pouring out into that basement.

Of course.. this was coal country back then... you would have guys knocking down big bucks... fancy trucks..homes full of fancy electronics.. all the latest doo dads.. and the sinks in the house would empty..... into the crawlspace.

When I was little our water heater was just sitting in the corner of the bathroom with no vent whatsoever and the water for the shower came from the drain valve with a cheap garden hose.
