Trane s9v2 should thermostat control blower speed?

I'm getting a new s9v2. I have been reading that the br wire can be used to let the thermostat control the fan speed, or the furnace itself can be programmed to ramp up the fan speed.

I want to do what is best. Should I upgrade to a pcm br compatible thermostat? Or stay with my current thermostat (Nest) that can handle 2 stages but not directly control the fan speed?

Is there anything else I should know regarding thermostats?

I believe I can ask for a trane
XL824B thermostat, I'm not sure how if the price is worth it. What additional benefits would the thermostat being able to control the fan speed give me?

Rarely in California does anybody use the fan by itself....

I'm in western pa. I have a 2 story house with a finished attic. I'm replacing a 25 year old system. Both ac and furnace. House is about 2000 sq feet. That does not include the attic. The attic has vents but no returns and has never been able to cool itself without additional windows units. Our 2nd floor bed rooms have been havening trouble as well and we have had window units in them for as well.

I'm still unsure what I should do. Keep the current thermostat or upgrade to the trane one that can control the fan speed?

And if I do upgrade to the trane thermostat do I want the installers to not enable any automatic fan speed ramp up and let the thermostat handle it?

Thermostat is on the first floor.

New ac is 3.5 ton trane xr 14 seer. Replacing a 25 year old 3.5 ton lennox unit and a lennox pulse 21. The pulse still works but the ac has run out of refrigerant the last 2 years , and has had trouble starting in previous years.

So which thermostat should I go with? Installer says nest will be fine but I'm worried about not using all the features of the system.

I have an S9V2 in my house and the Trane Stat as well, zero problems. It is WiFi capable but I don't use that feature.

JMO; a Nest Stat is like shingles, I wouldn't wish it on anyone...
