M099
I am a student in the field and I downloaded the bluon app and listened to their sales video on M099 as an R22 substitute and they make it sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread. I’m wondering if it works well in colder climates as well. I live in Minnesota. My teach said he used 407c but that it doesn’t work for low temperature applications so I was wondering if this would be viable to carry only one type of conversion for all applications and how it would work in low ambient conditions

That is not mo99.

I'm tired of these mediocre "semi flammable" refrigerants. If we're going to do it let's do it right.
Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

I use m099 all the time. I guess it depends on what you consider a low temp application?
For walk in coolers it works great. I've never tried it on a freezer. But that's mainly because most of the freezers I deal with that were r22 in the first place were undersized.
So those ones typically got converted to 404 the first time the txv went bad.
And for the others we've been running m079 which is kindof a replacement for 502 and 404.
In other words, it doesn't matter how hard I try, I still have to carry too many jugs....

R22 was never a good low temp refrigerant to begin with.

When I hear that I always wonder if there would be a better refrigerant for heat pump operation. Like 404a.

404 seems THE best for every application I've ever come across. I'm sure it would have kicked ass in AC
For 22 just use 407. Its the closest, best, also Oem replacement, and its super cheap.

Heat pumps aren't low temperature. They are high temperature when talking refrigeration.
Evaporator temperature and suction pressure denote the temperature range.
But yeah 404 certainly has more capacity, the issue becomes cost to build a system for 404 specifically.
And 410 has more capacity than 404 so 404 really doesn't make sense in an application like that

What is wrong will just using R-22?
Plenty of it around and will be for the foreseeable future.
Unless you are dealing will over 100 lbs. or so. Then it makes sense to convert.
Too many potential problems with converting a small residential system and the next guy does not know ahat is in there.

I think the OP was talking about low ambient, not low temp refrigeration. You know, where the condensing unit is outside in low temps.

R-407A is for Low Temp Refrigeration but needs POE oil

I got lot's of low ambient units running 99. No issues.

Low ambient or low temp?

If read comments further up you'll see that someone was possibly mistaking low ambient for low temp......
I don't run any 22 systems low temp. It's just too easy to convert to something better

I’ve worked on a few low temp R-22 systems. Nightmares but that’s all they had after banning 502.

The low temp r22 stuff I see these days are just so covered in graffiti you can't tell what's ACTUALLY in the systems.
I've found so many that the pt charts didn't match any known refrigerant that I just started from scratch with 404 and poe oil.
I will say the custom blends I run into actually seem to work ok lol
