Reconditioned Compressor Shelf Life?
Greetings everyone! I am new here and this post will be my first, so go easy on me! :-)
I have a Carlyle 06D comp that was reconditioned in 2005 and dry-sealed (no oil) with a nitrogen charge. The comp has been kept clean and dry and is still bolted to the pallet it was shipped on. I have no reason to believe that the rebuild factory seal has been compromised, but I have never used a comp that has been sitting on a shelf for this long. I would welcome any comments or suggestions on what I should/could expect and what I could/should do in this scenario?

Honestly the shelf life should be almost infinite....
It's happened a few times that I've gotten hermetic compressors from supply houses that had a manufacturing date 2 to 4 years prior to me getting it to install. They still held the factory nitro charge and had full factory warranty as my warranty started on day of purchase.
The unit is charged with nitrogen so it should be the same as the day it left the factory.
However, if it lost its charge of nitrogen then that's a different story.
Then I'd be concerned about moisture.
But plainly speaking, these semi herms will usually run for more than a decade in service. Why would sitting on a shelf bother them?

If a bearing is stored on a truck or somewhere with lots of vibration you can get false brinelling of the bearings.
This is something I worry about with blower motors on my truck, especially since I drive a Ford and it rides like a buckboard.

I don't think this would be a worry for your compressor but I find it interesting.
It is more of a concern for factory's with intense vibration and equipment sitting idle.

I'm tired of these mediocre "semi flammable" refrigerants. If we're going to do it let's do it right.
Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

Reconditioned or remanufactured?
If it was done correctly, I say fire it up.
