GAS PIPE SLEEVE THROUGH FIREBOX

Inspector passed my UNSLEEVED 1/2 black pipe as through brick it wont eat up the pipe like concrete.. Ive used plastic sleeves
through foundations all time. PEX pipe or plastic electrical conduit...
But I didnt want to insert plastic into the firebox as it will melt at low temp... How are you handling this?

In the old days even 2 layers' of black tape was legal [how old am i!]

This was the first inspector to say painting the pipe to keep it from rusting! --Gotta Love them all??

Galvanized steel pipe has been fine and accepted by the gas utility. They require galvy outdoors so no problem with H2S. If you're really worried about it, take a piece of chrome plated brass plumbing drain pipe, cut to length and cement in place. You can then easily pass any pipe through. Chink around the pipes inside with rockwool and/ or furnace cement. Outside, use a chrome escutcheon plate at the brick wall.
