Mounting Rails for basement furnace install?
New furnace install in basement in near future, very near water heater. Not a wet basement but stuff can happen. Current unit is 2-3" off slab mounted on a couple of u-shaped rails. Good idea or not really necessary?

Won't hurt, to play it safe.

I usually mount basement units to the concrete floor using unistrut 90° brackets.
I bolt the brackets to the furnace, adjust them until I got the unit sitting how I want and then anchor them into the floor.
( had an inspector once complain unit wasn't secure enough to the floor)
We also aren't allowed to just let a furnace sit on the floor in our province

Thanks. No issue with voiding warranty on new furnace by boring those holes? I was thinking some sort of rectangular fabricated plate that follows the base profile might do the job. The new unit (60K/95%) will not get return air though the base.

I've never had an issue with warranty. But then again I've also never tried to get warranty on this.
I just assumed it wouldn't be an issue as to install the furnace I have to cut out either the bottom or one of the sides in order for the unit to pull in air....
Would seem illogical for the manufacturer to deny warranty because the unit was bolted down securely.

How would they ever know it was installed like that. Its not like they come out and look when you do a warranty claim for a gas valve, or blower motor.

It a handful of holes also won’t affect the performance of the unit. I understand not evacuating a system prior to releasing the charge is a warranty concern. There’s condensing units all over the country that have mounting hardware attached to them and There’s no problem with warranty there.

Thanks, fellas. Sounds like I got some reasonable elbow room here. I see small cement blocks used for that matter.....just does not look so buttoned up to me.

Just double stack some plastic furnace corners. It would put you 4" off the floor with the added benefit of foam vibration absorbers.

Not sure I have seen those, but that sounds clever to me. Many thanks, KG!
