My fireplaces burn wood because I like burning wood and the efficiency to me doesn't matter. You will get heat if you burn wood and if you cut it off your own property the efficiency is a mutt point.

I don’t understand the term wet heat. If you mean an unvented gas insert with the combustion byproducts then maybe, but most don’t have a chimney.
Yes, Most of the Gas Units - for 500 Miles are Non-Vented . . I have Installed 1 Vented Unit and that was much Better and Dryer ..
I should have been more Descriptive about the Wet Heat .. either way - You will Never see a Heating Unit or at least I havn't seen one - that States this Unit Uses 2 CFM , or 4 Cu. Ft. Hour ..Set On Low
It's all 78% or 84% or 88% , I always ask 88% of What . .
Does it have 4 Inch Flew , or a Double Wall Instant On Hot Water - type - Venting ..
I guess if you like having low level CO in the house ventless fireplaces are great. I would not want one in my home.
I'm with Ya - Took it out and Using Fallen Trees from Storms with Insert for Extra Heat Only during Cold Snaps or Storms ( Back Up )
