TXV forced full open - charge to target SSH - what could go wrong? <g>
Hell; I know an AC tech in Florida who says about TXV's - "wool; ah jus let 'er swang baby'.
"Takes all kinds" has maybe never been more true, eh? <g>

This one was among the really bad i ever found

i could see doing this as a temp fix but do it the right way afterwards

Just add “a pound or two” and it’ll be fine.
Freezon fixes everything

No need for a txv in this case LOL

You guys have mo idea what you are looking at; that is a sub-cooling modulation valve sensing bulb, so it has to be on the liquid line.
Once in a while everything falls into place and I am able to move forward, most of the time it just falls all over the place and I can't go anywhere-GEO

I repaired a comfort cooling job where they were replacing 500 ton screw compressors every few years. All DX coils stacked in gigantic plenums. I guess the coils were 40-50 tons each - with a single TXV on each coil.
All day the system ran fine, and all summer it ran fine - spring and fall mornings it would slug liquid so bad the screw sounded like it was going to stall the 500HP drive motor. Nobody could figure it out and what the hell; who doesn't like selling 500 ton compressors. <g> Willard Mechanical out of Philadelphia had had the contract for many years.
Turned out that the original installation fitters had attached all the TXV bulbs with perforated strap iron. When the straps rusted off - the TXV bulbs had dropped down into the condensate pans. So on a dry startup the TXV's were wide open on return air temp. As soon as the coils started working and filled the drain pans with condensate - the bulbs started sensing the water instead of the return air and the SSH came right into line.

I’m more of a fan of using blue painters tape. I know a guy that works for Sherwin Williams. Way cheaper than traditional straps.

Who needs insulation either. Ambient works just fine. Especially in attics.

I'm tired of these mediocre "semi flammable" refrigerants. If we're going to do it let's do it right.
Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

That thing is not needed. Just cut it off and add it to the beer fund. You always have extra parts. Right?

There are a bunch of Lennox units that come from the factory with no insulation on the bulb.
I have to assume that is per spec.

Exterior to the unit? Most everything i have seen interior is uninsulated. Exterior...

Interior. Been a few years since I worked for Lennox dealer, but I was thing the G26 model or something like that. 90's vintage (+ or - a bit either way)
It was inside air handler with an "A" coil mounted between the arches.

Well; at least the suction superheat being too high is less likely.
