They all cant be perfect
New system install, addressed comfort concerns, explained only way for me to make them more comfortable is to take a whole system approach addressing all ductwork issues not just replacing equipment. Original system 120K BTU furnace, 5 Ton AC, someone added 4 zones onto it.... I installed 80k 2 stage, 3 Ton 2 stage. Static is high but performance is excellent. Basically I found for some reason the Aprilaire filter in this orientation has a .25 PD @ 1200 cfm which I usually have around a .1 PD so I was quite surprised.

Beautiful job. Nice metal. Now if you can do something about that Payne especially the Mexican A/C!

The sediment trap on your gas pipe isn't long enough. It's supposed to be 3". That's an automatic fail where I'm from.
I'm just kidding. Well it is, but I doubt anybody would give a rats ass after seeing the rest of the nice work that you did. I'd say that's forgivable. Very nice looking install on the furnace!!!
The Condensing unit on the other hand... I don't like how close to the house it is, or all of the shrubs around it, but I guess it is what it is. I can tell you did the best you could with the space you had available.
Thanks for sharing the pics. That furnace install is truly a work of art!

The duct work is Outstanding, but, I can see problems with the Outdoor unit, as far as clearance for service, free air space for airflow, that dryer vent being right there by the unit, & how did you get by that pad support? The only way that the Clermont County Building Department allowed me to use Pressure treated wood, was as a means to raise the unit up out of an area, that was susceptible to flooding, down by the Ohio River, & we literally had to build a little deck for the condenser with steps, & free area around the condensor, with rails so that no one would fall off while working on it.
But again,.. that Duct-work is Outstanding!

Just Wow, I have been in the field for 30 years and have seen many systems, that ducting is functional art. Well done Sir.

The company I used to work for has been using pressure treated pads for years. They outlast the equipment. I remember changing 20+ year old equipment and the wood was just fine, we of course changed it but it shows that it works. It’s basically a rock bed under the pad, I’m not worried about it moving. I don’t pick the locations most of the time just make the best with what I have. Inspectors have never brought up the pads yet, not to strict where I’m located.

You are an artist of ducting! I'm curious as to why the air filter would have a higher static pressure drop in that orientation. I've been impressed by the low PD of the Aprilaire that I installed at my house.
Are there turning vanes in the RA box below the filter to spread the flow of air over the filter?

I believe that was changed on the most recent IFGC Revision. I think any nipple counts now.

I agree I believe the IFGC says a nipple of any size.

No turning vanes in the box, maybe turbulence has something to do with it there but I wouldn’t think so. Return duct was .18, after filter was .48. I should of spent more time investigating but I didn’t.
I agree all the aprilaire’s I’ve installed are usually around .1-.15” PD.

Sir I would kindly ask that you no longer post pictures of your metal art, as it makes me feel bad about myself and my attempt at metal work.
Your metal art offends me, because i am not as good as you, and since we are now in a sensitive world, and your work offends me, you cant put it up anymore.
In all seriousness, I cant even draw up something and send it out and have it look that good. Truly is art.
How long did it take you to build all that metal.
My only complaint is your using that bottom feeder off brand payne stuff. Actually im only kidding about that as well. Brand does not matter and i put payne in for several years until the dist moved another 20 minutes north. I liked their stuff

Very impressive!
No way any inspector could nit pick anything IMO.
There used to be a furnace/sheet metal shop a mere 100 miles from be that would do custom ductwork.
You could call for some odd specialty fitting...offset in two planes.....different sizes on each end....certain rise etc.
I was surprised the first time calling.....the Lady on the phone said go ahead....she would draw it out just listening on the phone.
Always satisfied.
They probably started in the 50's and sold out in maybe the 90's.
Probably could not get good tinners or anyone who wanted to buy the entire company....IDK.
They had their own seal to press their logo in raised letters on the tin........GIFCO.....
If I were doing the SM you are I would invest in that seal press. Great advertising and maybe 50 years later your name would be remembered.

Lol. Love it. Thank you very much. I measure everything up before hand and have all the metal made before I start the job. That way I don’t keep people without ac or heating more than a day. This metal took me a day in my shop. I would say probably 6 hrs. I make it all by hand just have a 4’ brake, Pittsburgh, hand flanger. I need to invest in a slip roll, currently I make all the rolls in my break.
-
A press of my logo would be awesome. Wouldn’t even know where to get one these days. Any ideas?

I use Payne equipment because I am familiar with it. I worked for a Carrier dealer for a number of years. When my customers ask I go into how it’s not the name on the equipment that counts it’s who installs it. Currently I only do work for direct references so there’s usually not much argument. Same warranty as Carrier/Bryant. Only difference is Payne stops at 2 stage, no inverter products no modulating furnaces.

I really wasnt knocking it. Like I said I probably would still put it in but they moved so far north its a haul to get there. I jut know some guys on here love to hate on anything not trane lennox or carrier. That is the only reason I said it to begin with. Your work truly is beautiful!
