Best way to learn niagara

Hello all,

I have been working with various automation platforms the last 7 years or so (Trane Rover / TU, rockwell logix500/5000, microthermo / CPC)
I have been VERY lucky in only having to deal with one vendors automation where I worked, had to integrate maybe 10 to 20 non vendor devices here and there. I have not seen a niagara site yet in my travels.

The project I'm working on is looking like it may be up in 6 months to a year, so I'm looking to bolster the resume and learn a bit for my own curiosity.

looking for any recommendations on how would you go about getting used to Niagara ax / n4?

-Buy old controllers off ebay? I have the a couple working bacnet and lon devices in the garage I could use play with.
-training or courses? recommended courses or trainers? certification?
-I have found a couple vendors offer a demo N4 kit, but how limited is this in functionality?

There are some youtube channels that have some decent videos. Having the software is a big help...I'd start with that. The certification classes are ok, they provide an overview of the platform and some very basic concepts like alarms, graphics, logging, etc.

Youtube videos are out there. Check out Onesite Solutions channel they have some good starting videos. If by demo kit, I assume it is a demo work bench license and demo licensed jace since this istypically part of a on boarding kit when sign up with one of the Tridium OEM brands. The demo license basically gives you full access to the software abilities for learning and testing. Also create a niagara central account (tridiums user forum).

I dont send my guys to the certification class until they already know how to do everything in the class, but it will teach you how to create a station.

Hey tridiumtech I Am in the same situation. A former Hwell employee now working at a large hospital. We always used the branch and their legacy products in the past. EBI, xl500,xl plus, microcel, etc. Last few years we've been using independent controls companies, all are installing under N4 and using workbench. Could you please share the info with me also? Congrats on your certification. You've been a member of HVAC-Talk since DEC11. From your 'Statistics' it appears that you have only made 2 posts. Two post in 10 years - hum. And you want a 'free' NWG - all that 'blood, sweat & tears' for free, for what?. Typically I give the NWG to those who have reasonably contributed to this forum.

Hey tridiumtech, any chance I'm eligible for the guide? I just started in the industry earlier this year and have been consuming as much material around Niagara and JCI (mostly what my company is using). If not, I'll certainly try to contribute more but my knowledge is very minimal so far.
