You are correct Fender. Very few people win consistently and very few walk out winners.

My company was doing a project at a casino about eight years ago. I’m not a big gambler but decided to get in on the fun one day. Lost fifty bucks in about 30 minutes, but boy was it exciting.

The thrill seekers play craps. I didn't really enjoy craps or roulette so didn't play either of them much. When I tested my theory out on roulette a young couple came to the table that had been married for about 3 hours. They lost all their money but $15. The groom said to the bride do you want to leave or bet the last of our money. She said bet it all on the (I think black) eight. He did and they won. Everyone at the table cheered including the dealer. They won their money back plus and headed for the door. That was the most excitement I ever saw at the roulette wheel.

The best consultation is a book on card counting. The best advice once you learn how to win is "DON'T TAKE TOO MUCH". Two to three hundred is acceptable routinely and occasionally $500. The casino dealers etc. will figure out pretty quick you are a card counter. They figured out I was a counter pretty quick but treated me very good with the highest players card and feed me every time. Again they told me don't take too much and I didn't. I ask them why and they said other people see you win and think they can so it was worth losing a little to me. One time I needed money to fix my van and took $800.

Play the low dollar tables until you know exactly how you want to play. Remember gambling is dominated by trends so follow the trends and adjust your bet according to the trends and the count.

There are some good books out there.

I thought this post was about pirates.....

I was with a guy in Las Vegas that must have moved some money because he stayed for free at the casino.
He only played Black Jack. He said it was the only game where you could force the dealer to draw cards.
Best I know he wasn't a counter but he wouldn't have said anyway.

Didn't the casinos start using 3 decks to eliminate counting?

I guess blackjack is out for the Taliban. Since nine out of ten of them can't read, write, or count.

I played 6 deck mostly but sometimes 2 deck. The 2 deck almost always has too many players for the card count to go your way and stay long enough to take advantage of. One night I caught the 2 deck with only one other player and hit them pretty good. The pit boss got really pissed and called me aside reminding me of how good they had been to me. She said we like having you but you counted down the last shoe and took too much.

    They were good to you!
    Usually it’s don’t come back.
Here a couple of places have electronic craps tables.
Only a stick man and the players still throw.
The table does all the payouts and gives you 20 seconds to change bets.
Which is a lot by time if you don’t have to watch the dealers count.
Also keeps a history board like roulette.

What's amusing behappy some players ask me to teach them how to count and win. Not one of them had the discipline to follow the strategy totally. As soon as the count got good they increased their bet to more than their bankroll could support and ended up losing. Discipline in my opinion is even more important than the count. The casinos here didn't ban me because I didn't take much and drew other players to the table. I didn't scream with joy when getting a good win but the other players did it for me. That brought other players to the table which the casino liked but I certainly didn't.

    I played the $5 tables.

    Good for you.
I also try to stay at $5 tables, but is getting harder to find.
Year back took a blackjack counting class.
Got fairly good at it, but “other” players got to me to where I changed games.
Never looked back. With 6 shoe drAws and a full table it becomes work.

Play late on the weekends, occasional weekdays. Tables will open up single deck games for the diehards (me).

More like an at home game and you can clean up if you're patient and stop at the right time.

I quit playing behappy because I got fed up with players that didn't know squat trying to tell me how to play. They had the B'S to try to tell me what to do when I was winning and watched them lose for the Nth time. Sure I made plays that once in a great while defied blackjack basics. One night I hit a stiff against the dealers low hand. It was the last hand in that shoe. I don't remember the count but the odds of busting that hand were slim to none. The other players went nuts telling me how stupid that was. I didn't bust the hand but the dealer knew me well and ask why I did it. I told him there is nothing in the deck and you are going to hit your hand 5 or 6 times and will probably bust but even at that you may not. I don't remember how many times he hit but it was several and finally busted the hand. Even that didn't clue those dumb A's that I might have known something they didn't.

I grew up gambling & I swore off it a long time ago but I still manage to play a little blackjack when I go on a cruise.
I keep saying I'm going to use one of those cheat cards at the table that tells you when to hit or stick but never get around to doing so.
If you use the cheat cards that already have all the odds figured for you, then your odds are pretty even or at least around 49% to win.
A lot of times the cruise lines give you a few hundred bucks of onboard credit but if you don't spend it then you lose it.
They will however let you use onboard credit money for gambling & you can keep anything you win.
That's when I break my no gambling rule & go to the blackjack table.

When I got out of the Army I had trouble finding a good paying job. I played the bingo card pinball machines to augment my income. They weren't that hard to beat because everyone played them either drunk or without having any idea how to beat them. I watched other people play and waited until the good shots came cheap. I rarely missed a good paying shot. The owner of the pool hall got really pissed because I won consistently even though other people loaded his machine for me. He had the machine tightened up to the point you couldn't buy a good paying shot. I bought $2 in nickels and put in a few then picked up the rest and started to leave. He yelled out "not going to play if you can't beat it huh". I said no but as tight as you have it nobody will play it and you aren't going to make any money on it. I went back a few days later and they had loosened it back up. I sat down to play and he came over and ask if I minded if he watched. I told him know watch all you want. I hit it and he got up and said "well you're not cheating it".

Again gambling is all about discipline absolute discipline!!!!! That's why I related this story.

Discipline will win but that's the intellectual part of the brain. For most, gambling takes place in the emotions.

The concept of luck is an emotion. First time in a casino I was there to meet someone. I saw there were
no windows or clocks. When anyone won something on the bandits the tone machine would go off. Another
    play for the emotions.

I've never been a gambler. Being surrounded with casinos that's probably a good thing.

Even when I did gamble, I never liked the idea of playing on luck alone.
At least in games like blackjack & poker & most others, there was always an element of skill along with luck.
I never would play the slots because I never saw any skill in it at all.

I don't gamble, but I did enjoy the movie called "21". Somewhat unrealistic regarding all the winning they do, but a fun movie nonetheless. Check out the trailer if you haven't seen the movie.

I remember "Rainman". Lots of queens.

Doing BMS at a casino. They bused old people in to rob them of their SS money I guess. One old guy had an oxygen cart. He was playing
a slot, breathing the O2 and smoking non-stop. He looked in bad shape. I wondered what would he do if he hit it big.

My neighborhood friends and I played craps when we were kids. Painted a crap table on the underside of a ping pong table. It was great. When ever we lost money, we'd just borrow from the bank. Sometimes we'd be millions in the hole. But we always recovered, LOL. That was like 50 years ago, and I'm still using that table. Sort of. They plywood is real high quality. So there's not much left.

Last project was a computer table. I just enjoy this so much more than a nicer piece of furniture. Brings back good childhood memories.
