No need. I have the local backup of your stuff which means the other guys likely do too. It's a function of the Dropbox software the MemCom uses. It's just time needed.

I should also add that the local stuff updates and deletes as the forum does. None of us keeps any of the stuff submitted.

airfreightex, the Pro Tech acceptance email to you and copies to Dad were sent out this AM along with others to bring all applications received up to date. Dad said he hopes to get them processed later today.
Thanks Marc for handling all of the Pro application questions.

Will threads from the crashed drive be recovered?
Vacuum Technology:
CRUD = Contamination Resulting in Undesirable Deposits.
CRAPP = Contamination Resulting in Additional Partial Pressure.
Change your vacuum pump oil now.
Test. Testing, 1,2,3.

Never say no but highly unlikely. One just can't recover posts they must recover "all" the data before it can be imported.
I, for one, am very happy we are at only an 8 month loss instead nothing at all.

I had a hard drive crash a few years ago. Repair shop got the bad drive running, recovered most of the data, and rebuilt files.
Thought something similar might be possible.

They have the drive in forensics now and with all the sites on that drive were lost I am sure every expensive efforts were brought to bare. I do not know the extent of the damage but it if were good news I would have heard about it by now.

I agree. If you consider the fact that HVAC-Talk has been around since 2000, this recovery with only an 8 month loss is less than 4%. Sure, it's a lot of data, but as Dad said, we could have lost everything.
The main point here is we have the site back, it's healthy and running well.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I am very disappointed that a backup was not in place.

Can't really see how any of us can complain about data lost on a server we don't own and aren't shelling out a single penny to maintain.
That's a little like berating a paramedic for ruining your shirt after they cut it to apply the defibrillator.

Do you think Informa.com, a member of the FTSE 100, and the owner of Penton Media, isn't selling our data?
Do you think they are providing and maintaining this forum out of the goodness of their hearts?

The sponsors should be the one's complaining. I, for one, would be happy with a monthly membership fee, a tiered usage plan, or something similar if it would help the site.

I don't pretend to think that anything is actually secure on the internet.
If you think that the cost of them knowing how many cat videos you watch on YouTube should cover their backing up information to your standards, then go create space-racer-talk.com and take control of your data backup needs however you like.

If no backup were in place, you would have no HVAC-Talk to come back to and complain on.

he probably means a more regular backup. the last company i worked for did daily backups (a municipal water company). 12 tapes. I forget the Gb amount. But a LOT.
this site could probably use weekly backups to a source other than the drive holding it.
