I think there is a bit of a learning curve. I have been using 2 3/8 hoses right off the pump.

I use 2 appion megaflow 1/2 hoses with 1/4x3/8 ends.

I changed a rust inhibitor TXV the other day, pumped system down. When I pulled the vac on the evap and lineset it got to 450 microns in 35 seconds. Crazy fast.

x2 on the 1/2" megaflows. I've used both (I also carry 3/8 appion hoses with 3/8 & 1/4 ends). They are more cumbersome, but the 1/2" are noticeably faster. I keep the 3/8 hoses for those systems where the 1/2" are just too difficult to fit (close to wall, etc.).
