One of my old school BMX bikes won!
Drove out to Crown Point Indiana last weekend for the Old School BMX Show and swap meet and took some of my old race bikes with me.
My 1980 Redline MXII won 2nd place in the 1980-82 class. I was happy considering how many bikes were there.
Here is another I brought to compete in the Freestyle class, but it didn't win….way too many nice old FS bikes there I guess.
85 Skyway StreetBeat
growing up in the 80's, BMX was my world…I figured some you 80's guys might remember those good times and appreciate some old school American made bikes.

I still have my 81 Supergoose I raced when I was 12 at the Waterford track. I restored it 4 years ago by giving it a oxalic acid bath.
I still take these bikes to open track night and ride them, but Im a lil bit bigger these days so I take it easy on them…also, parts are difficult to find and expensive to replace.

Used play every Saturday at my buddies house for 16 years.. until he got married a few years ago..then the wife took over the house.
Since then I haven't picked it up much because the gang disbanded and I have no one to play with.

I love riding that bike. It was sooo freaking fast. Sad thing is my dad placed the bike outside in the backyard for some reason and some gangsters ( latin kings gang) stole the bike. I wasn't there at the moment as I was with my mom and sisters visiting Pakistan for the first time. Gangs were kinda of a problem in Miami at that time.

I clicked on that youtube link and I let it keep playing through about 7 or 8 videos in a row. Even though I don't even like bluegrass (or at least I didn't think I did), it was fun to watch. He was a very talented musician. I was reading some of the comments and learned that he was robbed and murdered after returning from a show one night. That's some crazy stuff. Anyways, thanks for sharing.

I am currently and have been an avid road cyclist and a casual dirtbike rider for over forty years. I owned a Medici Pro Strada with full Campy Super Record and a Yamaha YZ 250 in the eighties. Those two bikes were the best of the best back then. Now they are nothing more than antiquated, outdated junk (at least performance wise). So I ask, how can thirty to forty year old technology of BMX bikes be better than what is built today?

I don't think they are better than some bikes built today. The stunts these days are outrageous and insano, and the bikes hold up to the task.
What I do like is that they were made here for the most part. Japan made excellent bikes/parts as well. Also, the aesthetics of that era are more appealing to me because thats when I raced and because newer bikes all look the same.
The 80's BMX scene was huge and holds a mystique to this day. So much so, that there are shows and swap meets all over the country focused on it, and these bikes and parts are worth a small fortune if in nice shape.
Go on ebay and punch in NOS BMX and check out the prices.
If I would have known in the 80's this stuff would be worth what it is today, I would have invested all my money I made at the time into it.

I agree on those old parts being valuable today. I sold my 1982 Medici a year ago for $600. The guy who bought it seemed to only be interested in the Campy Super Record Groupo.
