Are you serious? Did you actually catch that before applying power to the unit? If so, did you have this happen to you before, or are you really this thorough?

Either way, that is a really good catch. I would never have thought to look there while doing a routine startup. Thanks for sharing.

That's why I let the rookie turn the power on. That way I have plausible deniability, LOL.

I see loose wires from factory all the time. Although, most techs I know would have heard it sound off and added a kickstart.

    Nice catch.

Had a Trane unit whose blower, sheave, and idler pulley shafts were all out of parallel. Unit installed less than a year ago. Impossible to align the three pulleys. Or even any two pulleys, for that matter. Told the customer they were SOL.

Had a startup on a new Leibert unit the other day. Had starters for the fan and compressor in the unit from the factory. Both starters had the same heaters, both sized for the fan!

    The

Had chilled water Leiberts some years ago, the 3 way valves were piped wrong. Had the rep . come to the job they fixed them! The Liebert tech. Hates me been to a few of my jobs that cost them! Had Data airs factory had to change 16 water regulating valves because they were not rated for the water pressure. Had 8 Trane packages two cycles, 4 were 208 and 4 were 460 same job! Trane changed 8 compressors and wiring corrected.

Having worked in an HVAC factory very early in my career. We did do a 100% run test. The only time we ended up with something like this going out was when a machine was found to be defective during the assembly and or test process. These failed units were repaired by a repairman who was responsible for ensuring they were run tested before they pushed them down the line to the packaging and shipping guys. That was not always done. We saw the same stuff you did in the field, bad compressors, bad caps, bad fan motors, bad wire crimps, bad fans, bad brazing, etc... but all on new stuff. I have a hard time believing it is any different today

Actually I was burned once when I didn't check, so yes experience taught me to be cautious. I have also worked with wierdos who "make" a problem just to see if you catch it...

Yeah stuff happens. Are you telling no one here has received a condenser with zero pressure before? Or an evaporator missing the metering devise?
