    Old Ruud heat exchanger

Started scrapping today and found this. I removed this ancient beast about 1 and half years ago. All wires were burnt high and low voltage. Looked like the transformer melted. But anyway, never even checked the heat exchanger. Good thing I condemed the furnace and sold new system, right?

WOW, worst one I have seen right there. They just don't make them like they used to...thank goodness.

A little duct tape and some jb weld and that'd be good as new.

x2 on the worst one EVAR!

It must have been in a drafty house or the occupants would have suffered some side effects.

This was in a donut shop, probably only ran on the really cold days as the kitchen heated up then shut down...cooling side was disabled way before by someone who removed the condensing unit top and fan and also cut out the liquid line and removed the suction line service valve...he actually wanted me to find a top and fan for that thing before the furnace had the meltdown....

    Nothing Spanky won't tackle!

I had a Trane gas pack I went to last week and found the evaporator coil with a big leak in the slab. Customer chose to replace the whole unit instead of the coil. I looked at it in the scrap yard at the shop a couple days ago to salvage some wiring and the heat exchanger was completely rotted out. I probably should've looked at it before even quoting for a coil.

Don't know, as all the wires were melted together.
