4 ft flourescent light fixture question

I want to install a 4 ft. fluorescent light in my office. Most of the fixtures I see call for T-8 34 W bulbs. Is there any problem if I install T-12 40W bulbs in this fixture other than the bulb diameter ? Will the ballast handle the slightly higher wattage ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Tom

It will say directly on the ballast what it is rated for - size, wattage, and number of bulbs. that said, most ballasts can overdrive a certain amount before they will fail. If your tubes light off they will only be slightly less bright and possibly cause a small premature failure of the ballast.

why would you want to put a brighter more power using light in rather then the one the unit calls for?

You could also try a different color T8 lamp. A 5000K T8 lamp will appear much brighter than a 3500K T8 lamp.
    Nemo me impune lacessit.

How much blood do I have to bathe in to get clean?

Entirely different specs. Install the right bulb in the designed fixture.
