    Furnace motor makes odd sound

    Hi,

My new York Affinity 9 C Series furnace started making odd sound yesterday. Here is the YouTube link
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKCkU...ature=youtu.be

What could be wrong? A few weeks back, it had stopped working because of water buildup due to drain pipe clogging with PVC debris. After it was cleaned, the furnace was working normally until yesterday. We have the heat but the sound worries me.

Looking forward to advice / suggestions

    Thanks,
    Santosh

that sounds like you better call the installer back, not good at all.

    How "new" is it?

I did it already but haven't heard from him. It was installed in 2011. After some months, the PVC started leaking. The installer replaced the PVC after a few months. I think the debris from that install got collected in the drain hose. On Jan 5th - One of the coldest days!, furnace stopped working at around 4pm. Installer came next day and cleaned the hose. He said water was filling in the motor that was causing it to stop. Furnace was working well until we started hearing this sound. I sent the link but have not heard from him. I purchased the extended warranty too but I believe, I have to go through the installer for any repair?

If the extended warranty is supported by the manufacturer, you will get it from another dealer who does that brand--ASK before you schedule.

    Sounds like the same issue...

I would NOT try to fix it myself... rather have them do it. Among other things... they might try to say you voided the warranty.

The installer checked the system and said the sound is normal and there is no problem with the system

    What?

Was it still making that noise when he was there?
As a York dealer who has changed hundreds of these inducers do to noise and a few that have seized, I can assure you, (and you likely know as well) this motor is on its way out, it did not sound this way new. If you have the warrantee, I would ask to speak to owner/manager and get this resolved.

Unfortunately the noise level was low when he was here. It seems to have a mind of its own. The draft inducer motor makes the loud noise once in while. Thank you for your suggestion. I will try explain to them. The tough part is the motor does not make the noise all the time.
