I own a 2014 Silverado that the tranny went out on last week. One of several trucks I own.

$3900 back on the road. Chevy dealer condemned it, independent condemned it and replaced for $1000 less.

Back on the road in a day.

    Time will tell...

I don't know but her father was politically well connected. So was I, and maybe better at the time, but I didn't think I would have to call in favors and big guns for something so small and commonsense as a property line / setback dispute. Apparently I was wrong. <g>

Actually I halfassed-won - what they demanded was the removal of the entire carport and the 60 yards of steel reinforced concrete I had installed under it. Oh; and both driveways. What they got was a single wall removed. But still; it was still not the garage I had wanted. And I Have tortured them mercilessly ever since then - but I wanted a garage not a fight.

I have bought a number of houses since - but never again any house that didn't already have a garage. <g>

Did you do this without a permit?

Yes; but that is how things were routinely done in those days. A whole new house or major mechanical changes, or a commercial building: sure - permits. But a roof, a shed, a fence, a porch, nobody cared. The building inspector at the time was a friend of mine and his mother lived across the street. He came to see her 3-4 days a week and usually came over to see how I was doing and to shoot the breeze while I was outside working on the structure.

And everything was fine for a couple years until my neighbor got annoyed because I would politely side-step her sexual advances. Which were quite blatant. Then suddenly she "couldn't see" backing out her driveway - so it was a "safety issue".

The craziest part was that in order to expand the carport I had removed a lilac bush that was so large that it literally blocked the sidewalk and hung out into the street. She had NEVER ever been able to see coming out of her driveway! <g> My work had actually Really Substantially improved her view of the street while leaving. <g>

The mayor then was a long time friend of mine and anything would have sailed though permitting and zoning. But it never occurred to either me or him that it would be required.

Shakespeare had it perfectly right in his judgement of women, didn't he? <g>

You and I, with a couple of glasses to sip, and some free time - could probably write a really memorable song. I'll need your help though because I only have the title so far:

    We could.

I have just completed my third month of piano study. All of that time at KXW in Trenton and YSP in Philly whet my appetite for the nuts and bolts of music..so I am finally taking the time to "go there."

I figured I should do if before I really am too old.

I do have a fair number of excuses. My children, my grandchildren, my stupidity, kindness to others, weather, customers, a studs-out new LR to create before Christmas decorations can go up, oh; all kinds of things. I have been vaguely poking at the van - but I have some broken ribs that are making it a little tough to roll around on the concrete. Or to do a lot of other things. <g>

I am 57 and taking guitar lessons. When you quit learning, what is the use in living?

I played the piano back when... it is not really that hard... practice, practice, practice... and did I say practice...

Learn to read music... it will make it a lot easier!

After 25 years in a choir, I have a pretty good handle on the music end of it....but you're right, it's teaching the fingers to carry out the commands of the brain and have those brain commands come out on the subconscious level.

I am also delving much more deeply into music theory...with chord structures, intervals, and advanced chord theory.

Do you have an 'ear for music'... what I mean: Lets say; you listened to the tune of, say; 'Hey Jude' by the Beatles...
Could you sit down at the piano keyboard... and plink away, until you had the tune replicated on the keyboard...
Then practice it a few times until you honed it out... then expand it to chords... until it sounded pretty good?

The 'ear' is, IMO, the key...
It is something some folks are just born with...
Something that most folks can develop with lots of concentration and time...
Yet a few folks who are just plain tone-deaf... would be better off if they did not waste their time.

If you can hear yourself sing, and keep yourself on key...
Then you have the beginnings of the 'ear'...
The rest is just practice, practice, practice...
And IMO part of that practice is tuning your ear... as well as getting your hands/fingers to play the keys.

It is very rewarding to play the piano... and of course you will be quite popular in small groups if you can sit down and play, while folks stand around and sing along...

I have a pretty good ear. I can put a harmony onto most songs.

    Funny story. 1971.

I was sitting around with a friend who had his guitar out.

He said, hey let's sing Mr. Tambourine Man.

He was really into Dylan, and only knew that version.

    I knew the Byrds version.

We both started singing, and we both realized that the Dylan line was the harmony!!!!
