    Condensate Pan Repair

I've got an old Trane Climate Changer (air handler). The evaporator condensate pan is leaking due to corrosion. Other than that, the unit appears to be in pretty good shape. It seems to make sense to repair rather than replace. My question is,... what methods have you fellows used to accomplish this repair and how successful (or unsuccessful) was the result?

Absolute best way to fix it is to remove or lift the evaporator coil and replace the entire drain pan either with new plastic or stainless steel. We've done spray pan coatings that will work to get you by for a bit, but ultimatly the pan will need to be replaced. Over the summer we changed the drain pans on 2 120 ton Trane air handlers. We built a gantry on the roof out of 6x6's to go over the top of the unit to lift the evaporator an inch to slide out the old pan and put in a new one. We did all the tricks sliding metal under the pan, caulking, sealing and nothing worked. Pan replacement is prob the best way to go...just kinda depends on your situation.

We did one once the same way. it was in the equipt. room on the second floor leaking down on a guy desk. we drilled a hole thru the roof and built an a frame on the roof, took the hook off the come along threaded the cable thru the hole rigged it to the old weather maker, and like was mentioned earler raised the unit just enough to remove the condensate pan. we all ready had the new stainless steal pan made and on the job. had a foofer come and patch the hole in the roof. peice of cake. custumer was happy and we were too.
a stupid question is a question you wont to ask, but don't

Thanks guys. You certainly are dissuading me from trying to put a temporary plug in the drain and pour and spread a gallon of epoxy into the pan.

GOT a 1970S m SERIES with bad drain pan as well. it looks like the pan supports the unit and I see 2 rails inside of it ??? figured on pulling coil and make a new stainless pan up to fit it.
