    has anyone tried to install a start cap that was at least 3 times the MFD as the original. Just curious as to what physically happens to capacitor

    Exploding Capacitors

    I don't know why that reminds me of Steve Martin in that movie The Jerk, with the exploding oil cans

    Replaced one in a year old Lennox yesterday. 40/5 440 volt round one made by York. (Seems odd they'd buy them from York)
    Anyways, it went out during a storm and took out the 40 mfd side. No bulge at all, nothing leaked out, looked perfectly normal, but when I took it out I could clearly hear it swishing inside like a glass of water!!

    Just take a look where the new caps are made!! If you know what I mean.
    If it ain't broke don't fix it!!
